Dang, that checks like all my boxes but I don’t want to deal with maintaining a swimming pool.
 
Posted this in the summer travel thread, but curious about the CT's opinion before I tell my mom how ridiculous she is being.

My 74 year old mother wants to drive up to the Cape from Winston for Memorial Day for the traditional moving-in date at the place my aunt rents. I told her this was stupid and she asked if I’d rather she flew. I told her both were stupid and I’d rather she did neither, but if she’s insistent I would want to drive up with her because I don’t want her driving 15 hours. She was like, I’ll stop at so-and-so’s, but no one is going to want to put up my mom, right?

This is all dumb, correct? And neither of us should go up there from NC until things settle down, or what? Am I being overly cautious?
 
That’s a tough one. My parents are coming down to check on the progress of their renovations on their new to them house next week. We already skipped their April visit. My wife keeps seeing family and friends being stupid and wonders if we are overreacting.
 
If she was talking about going to the beach in NC or an adjacent state, I'd be fine with it, but I don't like the idea of stopping by in places that have been hot spots and could be hot spots again after this re-opening phase. I don't know. She hasn't been very good in general about this, and thinks her mask makes her invincible. She keeps going to the hardware store or furniture store, which she has zero reason to do. She just needs to chill. If I had any confidence that she would pay attention and severely restrict her mobility before and after the trip to make sure she was cool, I'd be a little more ok with it, but she'll just keep going to random places. In the next breath she will mock those who are protesting re-opening things. Whatever. People are so weird.

That's a good idea. I just waited for my oldest to learn how to ride a bike and bought myself a bike. I probably would have hurt myself on a skateboard.

But yeah, there were a couple of years there where family walks were my wife and I intermittently jogging to keep up while the other one hung back w/ the younger kids.

The worst was one on bike, one on scooter, third wanting to walk instead of sitting in stroller.

thanks to COVID i've now jumped into two hobbies i wanted to do in HS but was too afraid of because they were outside of my social caste

My mom is fucking crazy. I didn't realize Memorial Day was this weekend and not next, and she's really insistent on wanting to go up to the Cape. I am going to do some research, but if anyone has any literature that I can show her, or some expert she'll believe instead of her son, to tell her how fucking crazy she is for wanting to drive up the Eastern seaboard this weekend, please post.

Also, happy to be wrong and see dissenting opinions, but she is a nearly 74 year old with a history of some respiratory illnesses (semi-major-ish, but not major-major), and this just seems like a stupid idea to me.
 
Maybe it's fine. I don't know. Whatever. Jesus, this world is stupid.
 
go through lynchburg and danville to get to 81, then take 81 all the way to Binghamton; then 88 & 90 to get across Mass. You'd avoid all the metro areas except for boston.
 
Yeah, and it's not so bad in Boston, right ?

Also, lots of Gatorade bottles.
 
There would be a stop in Boston to pick up stuff, apparently. Man, I don’t know. It seems silly that I’m even having to worry about this. I don’t know why she’s so insistent.
