Brizzi getting hot. Really want to see Forbes display his recruiting prowess and land this top recruit
Time for a little negative recruiting on ol' Sean Miller.
Fwiw, doesn't seem like too many of my Wildcat friends will be particularly troubled when Miller moves on.
It took Lute a long-ish time to get those Final Fours. My friends just don't really like him, not really attached to him enough and he hasn't been successful enough to have the shady stuff worth it to them -- I don't totally get it, but I'm not paying as close attention to them as I used to or as they do. A lot of it was the controversy and coming up short with stacked teams, I gather -- been the case with them a lot over the years before Miller, so who knows. Lute at least had some final fours.
Yes please.
Sounds like Giannis
Phenom Hoops traveled to Virginia back in late February to check in on multiple teams playing in the VISAA playoffs. One team that caught our attention with their play was Life Christian Academy, a program that ended up winning the Division III VISSA Basketball Championship. On the court stood an intriguing 6’10 prospect in Will Henderson, a junior that showed off a lot of unique skills that you don’t always see with someone for at his size.
But then you learn his back story, which could be a huge reason why schools are starting to flock his way.
“Initially, I did play shooting guard and three years ago I started growing, so I was moved to a combo. Two years ago, I moved to center which was very awkward for me because I was so used to handling the ball and shooting. So, I got with a trainer and learned post moves and more ballhandling. This year, my coach didn’t know where to play me so later in the season, he allowed me to play the three and four, and that allowed me to progress tremendously with my game.”
With Henderson playing multiple positions over the last few years, it has allowed him to keep his guard-like skills and be a threat from multiple areas, while also using his length to be a threat on both ends down low. Henderson also says it has helped him increase his IQ and understanding of position on the court. His primary focus is to play the forward position but he has been able to expand his game by bringing the ball up the court off the rebound, showing his versatility as well as his ability to stretch the floor.
William Henderson 6’8 176 pounds 2021 Boo Williams EYBL 16
William is in the midst of a growth spurt that has seen him add nearly 3” in the past five months and he isn’t done yet! The added length is a welcomed addition to his basketball profile that includes capable ball handling skills and shot making skills with three point range coupled with a good amount of athleticism and agility. William has been utilized often around the rim because of his length, good bounce and repeat jumping ability that makes him a very good rebounder and shot blocker with mobility to defend the paint and defend opposing small forwards out along the perimeter. His offensive game suggests a move to the wing as a potential big guard or small forward is likely as he continues to fill out and adjust to his added length. William can get to the rim with the dribble using basic crossovers coupled with rangy, determined strides and some slippery and shifty body movements as he slices through traffic with good quickness. He does a good job fighting through contact and as his body fills out he will no doubt enjoy more strong finishes and scoring ability finishing drives to the rim. He does a good job now in that regard. William has a nice stroke with range beyond the arc. His ability to extend the defense with the jumper creates matchup concerns as he is capable of beating bigger defenders off the bounce and has the length to shoot over many opposing guards or small forwards. William does a good job selling the jumper against hard closeouts and attacking with the dribble and has developed a capable middle game. Obviously his length in addition to his budding perimeter skills creates plenty of excitement. The fact that he is surrounded by good basketball people gives confidence he will continue his skill development and his success off the court and in the classroom where he sports a 3.6 GPA are a testament to his work ethic. All indications are William Henderson will continue to develop into a prospect worthy of attention in the 2021 class in Virginia. He should have a big summer and with the exposure that awaits on the EYBL Circuit should begin stockpiling interest from D1 and D2 college coaches.

How long until Ph suggests we should recruit Will Henderson as a PG to improve our chances?

Does he want to play PG?
That positionless offense may be appealing to Henderson. But I doubt we ever see him actually play in one of the guard spots for us. Looks like someone that would make a good stretch 4 or even a really mobile 5 if he keeps growing.
