F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

if you watch the video there (4/5, hopefully I linked it correctly), there is almost 2 hours of peaceful protest. Go to the last 10 min and you'll see where the CMPD, for apparently no reason, decides to trap the entire crowd, tear gas them, and shoot at them. For palma's count I don't know if this is just one video, or if it's 50 since there are at least 50 cops pulling this shit.

Well it's at least the second or third largest riots in the history since the civil war, and easily on pace to be the largest. That's why saying it's "some" looting and rioting is retarded.

Without the looting and rioting, unfortunately, this all would be nothing. 95% of the US (and all of the world) learned about this through images and videos, and it’s the images of burned out streets and buildings that capture attention. Another march is just another march. The rioting, looting, and more police brutality videos are what are hopefully going to lead to change.

Right, the way to reduce police profiling based on prejudices of criminal behavior is through criminal behavior. Makes perfect sense.

Kneeling during the national anthem didn't seem to work

To a degree it did via voting. Again, most, if not all of the cities in question are controlled by Democrats. Everything is in place to work except the last link. The Democrats in charge need to tell the police to stand down. That's it. There is no reason why Charlotte's black mayor, city council, and police chief can't tell CMPD to stay a mile away. The cops aren't showing up of their own volition, they are being ordered to by the people elected supposedly in part to address these issues.

During Rizzo's time as Chief of Police and Mayor, police brutality wasn't just condoned. At times, it seemed to be SOP. Traffic stops often turned violent. Even asking what you were being stopped for could lead to a beating.

On top of that, Rizzo didn't even bother to hide how much on the take he was. He bought a mansion and spent more lavishly than he could have possibly afforded.

Rizzo statue taken down in Philly. About time.

Anybody remember the Jerky Boys? One of their characters was named Frank Rizzo, and I think they were popular while Frank Rizzo Jr was trying to run for office.

If I had a football game to go to anytime soon I’d kneel during the anthem.

Too bad youth baseball is still cancelled, perfect serious and important stage to kneel at.

To an authoritarian mindset, there is no such thing as "civil" disobedience, so this debate is pointless. There is a greater philosophical concept behind the act of civil disobedience, to demonstrate to society that authority is derived from consent of the governed. Protestors are demonstrating that they don't consent to unjust policing and abuse of authority. The argument that this complaint should be demonstrated by voting instead, is asanine. How and where do you vote for non-abusive policing? What black person ever knowingly voted *for* racist and abusive policing?

Rizzo's Son-in-Law "bought" my friend Billy's bookie operation. At the time, he was probably the biggest non-Mafia bookie in Philly. The son-in-law expanded it to taking out of state bets and then into check kiting and illegal stock market scams. At that point, the Mafia had to be paid a percentage. The greedy bastard killed the golden goose.

When the son-in-law got busted, Rizzo lost his mind.

vote out everyone who currently has a seat in power. things will change.

Huh, no antifa involvement. Some of y'all gotta quit clutching those pearls.

Good to hear there was no documented Antifa involvement in the *peaceful* DC protests.

Is The Nation planning a follow-up story to confirm there was no Antifa involvement in the *peaceful* protests in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, NYC, Portland, Seattle, Detroit, Louisville, Chicago, and Atlanta (just to name a few)?

Keep us posted

Trump turned the National Guard on a totally peaceful protest in Lafayette Park. Attacking innocent, peaceful Americans by the federal government is amoral to people who believe in the Constitution.

The people being voted in, at every turn, are just as likely to uphold injustice, often unknowingly. Does anyone making the argument for voting as a solution ever really consider the likelyhood or even possibility of the justice system truly being reformed?
Angela Davis wrote
"The liberal articulates his sensitivity to certain of society’s intolerable details, but will almost never prescribe methods of resistance that exceed the limits of legality — redress through electoral channels is the liberal’s panacea. In the heat of our pursuit of fundamental human rights, black people have been continually cautioned to be patient. We are advised that as long as we remain faithful to the existing democratic order, the glorious moment will eventually arrive when we will come into our own as full-fledged human beings."

How come such a large portion of the looting videos I've seen are white dudes with skateboards? Saw one where a few black protesters took the skateboard from the guy and stopped him from breaking windows.

Police departments that get military weapons (like armored vehicles) must use the equipment at least once a year or return it to the DOD. This inane rule basically demands police brutality.
