F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

Anything that happens at the federal level is going to start with cities and towns. Bottom up change.

I’m sure Biden will restore Obama era guidance and such but massive change will start small scale.

I have been largely boards-absent during the pandemic so this may have been explained but I don’t understand what the alternative to electoralism is in the US in 2020 to affect change.

Can someone articulate it ?

I'm posting this without comment, but I do suggest actually opening and reading the whole tweet

he marched in Chicago last night without any PR, just hit up an activist and showed up

Working with community organizations to help people directly?

Officer Bologna makes $127k a year.

He's apparently the commander of the unit that works protests, and he was caught on video attacking another protester as well. What are the chances they were the only two?

Philly police commander videotaped beating protesters is linked to narcotics scandal, misconduct

The aggressing officer is clearly identified by cell phone video, witnesses at both scenes, and public records as Staff Inspector Joseph Bologna Jr., operations commander of the department’s Patrol Bureau, a bicycle-mounted police unit that runs interference for protests and special events.

After the ensuing scandal, Bologna took over West Philadelphia’s struggling 19th District. While there, he espoused a “broken windows” policing philosophy, ordering officers to aggressively engage district residents over minor offenses –– from open containers to low-grade traffic violations –– in hopes of preventing larger crimes.

Also during his time in the 19th, officers on tactical squads that reported directly to Bologna attracted dozens and dozens of civilian complaints. Three men in his ranks were subject to 25 civilian complaints in a year and a half, among the highest rates on the roughly 6,500-officer force. Many detailed accounts of excessive force or, echoing the Tainted Justice scandal, warrantless searches or thefts.

Bologna received a merit promotion to a staff inspector position in 2017. Before being placed on the Patrol Bureau, he briefly led the Background and Recruitment unit, which is charged with bringing new officers into the department.

His rise through the ranks has troubled police watchdogs.

That's a good question, but I think there are alternatives as much as there are additions to electoralism - my suggestion/s would be getting involved with community activist groups in your local town or city on behalf of: poverty, housing, criminal justice. I'm not trying to assume you don't already do those things, maybe it was just a rhetorical question.

I *don't* think that we currently have alternatives to electoralism, is what I was trying to post, damn edit function.

It's a deplorable move, but there will still be people singing the BuT tHeRe ArE gOoD cOpS song. Policing is beyond reform. The only way to root out this thin blue line bullshit is abolition.

i don't understand. what do you think these protests are if not an alternative to electoral politics?

Roger Goodell apologized on behalf of the NFL for being wrong and discouraging protests.

Jordan and Jordan Brand committed $100M over 10 years to social justice organizations.

I think we need a separate thread about activism in sports but I’m fine keeping that thread on the Tunnels as to not trigger the conservative posters.

Don't rehire any of those thugs who are trying to cover for brutalizing a 75 yo man who was simply trying to return someone's shield.

Fuck' em all. Others will line up to take their place.

Just for a little perspective Q4 in 2019 Jordan brand made 1 billion dollars, so 10 million per year, while admirable, isn't really that much for them.

Nike also just caught slack for having only 8% AA VPs, as opposed to 13.6% for the population.
