Redskins Name Change Thread

Owner Abe Pollard changed the name of the team. He was one of the last of the really old guard. In the 90s, Chris Webber went public with being pissed about not be asked whom the team should draft. Pollard told the press if Webber wanted to make ownership decisions he should buy into the team.

Sources from the highest level have reported that the last name of the former owner of the Washington Wizards and Capitals is spelled POLLIN.

FedEx corporate statement made front page of the dead tree edition of the Washington Post this morning.

"We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name."

Lead-in to an article about (big $$$$) investors asking large corporations to "walk the talk" of statements that value diversity and inclusion with respect to their business relationship with Dan Snyder and the Washington football team.

Maybe he should change the team colors to include green, silver and blue, because the only sell outs he gets are when Eagles, Cowboys and Giants fans fill the stadium.

Washington's front office officials responded by saying, "Tell your truck drivers to get the f*** out of the left lane!"

FedEx isn't just any company. They hold the naming rights to the stadium. That contract doesn't have many more years to go. (It ends in 2025.) That very simple straightforward statement by FedEx sounds a little like it fits the genre of "make him an offer he can't refuse." Or, "I'm asking politely...(pause for effect)...this time."

Also, chair of FedEx is part owner of the team. Snyder sold part of the team some years back.

Washington fans have been voting with their feet for many years. The once vaunted "20,000 name waiting list" has become 20,000 empty seats on game days. Unless the visiting team brings a big crowd and the burgundy and gold is drowned by green or silver and blue. Danny wants a new stadium. His first choice is the site of the current RFK stadium. It won't happen in DC with the current team name in place. Doubtful that the team, as is, would be welcome in the northern VA suburbs of DC, either.

Reports are coming in that the franchise is "reviewing" a name change. It just makes sense for so many reasons. And if somehow Synder sold the team to a decent owner, I'd have a team to root for in the NFC East again.

New name needs to be two syllables to still fit in "Hail to the Redskins" song.

What if they entered into a NIL agreement with a specific tribe in Va-Md area? The tribe could ensure imagery is respectful and educational.

Stephen A. Smith just said on SportsCenter that he’s been informed by a very reliable source that the name is being changed before the season starts.

Sometimes it isn't message. Sometimes it is the messenger. FedEx chairman and partner in ownership carries a lot more influence than thousands of other people.

All the momentum is behind changing the name. I don't think it's a definite that it'll happen, but it's MUCH more likely now than it ever has been in the past.

Snyder said he's considering it. It's happening.

“What’s the point of being fuck you rich if you never say fuck you? -Bobby Axelrod” -Dan Snyder

For better or worse, the dude is dug in. I’m still 100% that he won’t relent, but will certainly be interesting to see what plays out.

You might want to revisit your percentage.
