Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

I've seen some on the Twittersphere suggest that the polling error potentially came from Black and Hispanic men that broke for Trump as one of the key reasons for some of the seemingly large polling errors.

why do people keep saying trump isn't a "good" candidate

seems like he checks a lot of boxes for a populist

Rural rubes love a good snake oil salesman, he's perfect for them. Nothing has changed since the 19th century.

I eagerly await the same Bad Candidate analysis by the centrists Dems for Biden that they used on Hillary

*loosening dress shirt collar nervously with my finger* YEAH damn those centrists for that specific thing they specifically said about Hillary specifically

when they start counting these mailins the PA flip could get kinda nuts

True, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. winning the white house is massive and thanks to the precedent setting from the oompa loompa Biden should feel free to do whatever the fucks he wants via exec orders, appointments, etc. yeah the dems should have dunked it, but be happy with what you got. it also puts the pubs in a fork in the road for '24. do they go moderate or more Trumpism? i think it'll cause some distress on their side either way

This is really good insight and raises an interesting question. Does someone like Paul Ryan step up, or does the RNC try to shove Mitt down their throats? Four years is a long time, but fuck me, I would love to see Nikki Haley run. I know that I'm a racist misogynist, but she really doesn't seem like the rest of them.

Yeah this is the real problem. Biden as a 4 year elderly placeholder for a Blue wave of Senate and House majorities backed by a public mandate to return to some semblance of normalcy - that would have worked. There is a ton of young talent in the Democratic party that could build off a few wins and take advantage of what folks thought was a changing demographic and a new blue wall in one or more areas.

Instead we're left with the reality that when the country really turns out for an election there are huge holes in Democratic support - Trump expanded his base in many places. And he's note even a good candidate. Biden may eke out a win like Trump did 4 years ago, but he'll be lying on the train tracks waiting for the Senate to run him over. McConnell will prevent any real work from getting done and lay a mountain of deficit talk on him. If Republicans can actually find a solid candidate next time around they'll probably beat Harris.

Sobering day.

Hawley, Haley, Cotton, and Crenshaw have the playbook of what goes right for Republicans. Hawley is already talking about a multiracial working class populism being the future of the party. They won't commit unforced errors like Trump does every day and the stark difference in youth and coherence between any of them and Biden will give Joe a lot of trouble.

Harris dropped out before the primaries even started. She will have to a lot of good things as VP to be a viable candidate.

I mean, Biden -IS- a bad candidate. That being said- is this post a "Bernie would have won" post or something else?

I don't get the sense that if Biden loses, it will be because progressives didn't support him. That doesn't seem to be the early story from Florida, for example. But I am open to suggestions about how a more progressive candidate or message would have won FL/NC/Iowa/Texas and would have carried democrats across the finish line in the various senate and house races that they lost. That position doesn't ring true to me at the moment, however I am at a loss to provide a position that better explains what happened.

Haley is already planning a run for 2024, look at her social media.

I'd argue the Republican contenders are the following if Biden wins (in alphabetical order):

Tom Cotton
Dan Crenshaw
Ron DeSantis
Nikki Haley
Josh Hawley

People who may run but who aren't serious contenders if Trump loses:

Pence
Trump Jr. or Ivanka

Rubio may run too, but he has to win his senate seat in 2022 and the Dems will throw half a billion into Florida to get him out.

Dude- Donald Trump is going to be the nominee for the 'pubs in 2024 if he loses this race.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Trump (Sr) tried to run again in 2024 claiming this election was stolen

I'm not a political strategist, and it's way too early to do this, but maybe if I were Biden (or any other candidate for that matter) running for the Dems, I would have decided that Latino outreach was more important than funneling $100M to the Lincoln project to get 50,000 former Republicans to switch parties for one election. At a moment when the party of dinosaurs needs introspection the most, my guess is their gaze will land no further than Bernie Bros in 2016. If only people weren't so mean on the internet in late 2015, we'd all be at brunch!

The Lincoln Project did a better job electing Republicans across the country than they ever did as actual Republicans. What a bunch of grifters!

Crenshaw was born in Scotland, and I will spam his entire campaign claiming he is not a real American while I drag me kicking and screaming from the room.
