Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

Just can't believe Dems/Libs haven't even won the election yet and their fixated on when they're throwing Dump in jail.

Win or lose he's not going anywhere.

And the only thing this process has shown me so far is I'll never listen to another pollster again.

Probably some emotion here, but I'm totally down on policy mattering at all for most voters. Most people just don't care. You can do opinion polls and see what believe in and support from a policy perspective, but I'm not convinced they actually link those beliefs in any way to what a candidate or party actually does.

Does he look like me? Does he seem like he's part of the team I want to be part of because reasons? It's all kind of depressing. Hope I'm wrong and with better policies and/or messaging people will actually care.

“The Latin vote” is not a monolith. Cubans + Mexicans + Central Americans + Puerto Ricans + South Americans = a really complicated mix of cultures and preferences. If nothing else Dems need to start realizing that there isn’t a “Latin vote” and start thinking about the different groups with in that classification.

Nor is any ethnicity or demographic. It's not like Trump threaded some needle here, that's not what microtargeting even needs to be.

I reject the idea that a progressive platform can't win

Obama 2008 was quite progressive as a candidate (obviously not as a President) and he has the most all-time popular votes of any presidential candidate by a lot

progressive politics can work, but -- more than I'd care to admit -- personality is hugely important in American presidential politics

Is turning out the vote really the problem? Voting obviously hit record numbers and Biden will have the highest number of votes cast for him of any candidate ever. It’s just that half of this country has bought into this lunacy and also turned out in record numbers.

Doesn't appear that turnout was an issue for either side. Trump has energized his base of evangelicals and non college educated whites like no Pub before him, or likely after him. If Biden is able to hold on, which I think he should because these late counted ballots are skewing his way, the lesson for Pubs won't be that they need to be more inclusive. They're going to double down on Trumpism, whether he's running or someone else is. I read the Haley speculation here, and I'll say the same thing I said about Sasse - neither 1 of them is going to get the 2024 nomination based on running on their records. They'd have to fully embrace Trumpism, and Haley would have to apologize for her SC flag decision.

I think that Atlantic piece I posted is correct. We're in for a rough decade or so until changing demographics make this version of the Pub party obsolete.

but the Tennessee and West Virginia senate races !

Democrats ran progressive candidates for senate "that stood for something" in both TN and WV. they both got smoked and underperformed Biden.

So where is the evidence that a progressive message is going to resonate?

They lost with centrist dipshits in KY and NC, what the fuck is your point you mouthbreathing Greensboro asshat

at what point do we start considering that there is some trump cheating and/or voter fraud happening?

It already happened. Have you seen how many mail in votes didn't get delivered?

Dude, I know a ton of one-issue voters. If a Dem candidate said, "I am strongly pro-life," they would open the door to a bunch of votes. If a Pub candidate said, "I am strongly in favor of universal healthcare," they would open the door to a bunch of votes. My wife didn't vote for Trump because he's white and she hates black people, she voted for Trump because there is nothing in the world more politically important to her than being pro-life. Full stop.

You guys have got to stop attributing voting one way or another to "stupidity." It's unbecoming and not reflective of your ability to think deeply on an issue.

Townie is spouting straight truth at you guys and you just gotta listen. Dude is smart as balls.

Cal probably could have won if he didn't have the "Historically Sexy" screwup. NC Voters are enamored with Brown haired white dude Democrats who went to UNC Law.

I am saying there are multiple ethnicities in the so called “Latin vote.”

voting for trump because there's nothing more important politically than being anti-abortion (stop calling it pro-life) is stupid

Your childish petulant anger doesn't really address the point that candidates that you believe have a winning message nationality have exhibited no actual ability to do so.

A big takeaway from this is not "all pollsters suck" like Pops thinks but rather that we need more state-specific polls like Selzer in IA. Pollsters that are from the state, know it backwards and forwards, and therefore know what demographics need to be hit to get the most accurate view of the state. Monmouth, Siena, ABC News, CBS, Fox News, etc. all have really good polling operations and put together the best they can for each state polled, but clearly there is something getting missed that Selzer has down pat in IA.

she outperformed Biden by 6 points against the senate majority leader where those progressives underperformed Biden against much less well-known senate candidates. I think the amount of money she raised was crazy put that's a different point.

Ahh. The trains ran on time, so it's all good.

That's your take, but a shitton of people do it, and it's a large part of the reason we are where we are right now.
