Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

Imagine being someone who voted for that shitbird waiting for that pivot.

It's so insane that none of our measures for removing a dangerous president from office were able to be deployed against donald trump. What a farce our whole system is.

The tools are there, it’s just that the people who could use the tools are fucking cowards

There may be enough Pubs who want to be able to run in 4 years without having to worry about Trump that they decide to just all impeach his ass so he can't run.

None of those pubs can be attached to it or they won't win a nomination.

Also can we stop saying that there will be a "peaceful transition of power". We had an attack on the US Capitol that resulted in 4 deaths. That's not peaceful. That ship has sailed. One more norm sacrificed on the altar of a narcissist gameshow host. Yay, America !

What exactly is the point of the 25th amendment?

1. Clarify presidential succession. The VP IS the president, not acting if the president is gone.
2. Allow filling a vacancy in the VP spot.
3. Create a mechanism for managing foreseeable presidential temporary disabilities. E.g. surgery under general anesthesia. This provision has been used already.

4. Deal with presidential disability when the president is so disabled he is unable to consent to anything. Like he had a massive stroke or heart attack. Is alive, but not capable.

The amendment was written when Pres Eisenhower's heart attack was a fresh memory and the sitting pres (LBJ) had a heart attack history.

On top of that, Trump has been in charge for 4 years, so if there was major election fraud that is so concerning to him, why didn't he do something about it?

Technically he did. He formed that semi-phony election integrity commission in hopes of drumming up "proof" that showed he really got more votes than Hillary (or that she got millions of illegal votes). And then it quietly disappeared when they couldn't find anything at all.

So if Ranger is the Twitter bot of this board, Deaconblue is the google bot, right?

So you don't have another Edith Wilson situation.

As to your other question, I'm sure his approval rating hasn't taken much of a hit. I saw a poll that 45% of Pubs approve of yesterday's attempted takeover. And most of them probably buy Matt Gaetz's blaming it on antifa. On the positive side, yesterday was probably another super spreader event in DC. DC has had 30K rona cases. What % of that number do you think we can blame directly on the WH?

Not posting the video directly because its violence/shooting, but this reddit thread with embedded video is the clearest view of the woman getting shot.

https://old.reddit.com/r/PublicFrea...est_view_of_a_terrorist_attempting_to_breach/

Looks like the area was the area in which the politicians were gathering/being evacuated from, which included VP and VP-elect. Unknown who was in the room directly behind the agent that fired the shot. The doors were barricaded with some smashed glass, a large crowd was on the other side, the woman attempts to hop through the smashed glass and enter the corridor, as she does the office fires a single shot. The crowd begins to freak out like they couldn't understand why someone just got shot. What is ridiculous is there is a significant amount of police within the large crowd, with long guns, not doing anything.

The police showed a lot of restraint in the situation. I am surprised that only one bullet was fired. Usually once the shooting starts, a whole lot of bullets get fired. I am surprised there weren't a lot of bullet riddled bodies at that door. Especially with the VP and VP-elect to protect, I would have expected a hail of bullets once people started coming through the door. Perhaps the police officers involved should be training others in restraint.

The thing that I've never been able to accept or understand is why are millions of folks willing to sacrifice so much for this guy. Families don't speak anymore, our democracy might be irreparable, American Christianity is likely done, and all for the THIS mother fucker?

Can you think of a reason that police might’ve been more restrained in this situation?

Had the original generals and Tillerson still been in the cabinet, they may have gotten with Pence to do that. Then again, yesterday may not have happened on their watch. Trump's reign has really been 2 different tales, his 1st 2 years and the last 2 years. Folks like Mattis, McMaster and Tillerson may have exasperated themselves trying to rein Trump in, but they did a decent job of reining him in. It was after they left/were fired that the Ukraine shit went down.

You believe this, don't you. You think he listened to their advice?

Some of the videos of the initial surge I don't actually blame the police for eventually just retreating. Its wild, it looks like 8 officers against 1,000s of psychos with only a 4 foot metal barrier in front of them. The only way that stops would probably be just mass shooting from the police. Once they were overrun I guess it was unless lives in danger, or violence dont escalate things until greater numbers and backup arrive. The lady was shot looks like she may have encountered secret service and their fuck around and find out mentality, tasked with one job and one job only, protect the people they are assigned to.

He became the perfect vehicle for this building movement, and we're not yet done with him - he became their prophet. And yeah, I'm in 1 of those families, and it remains to be seen how reparable our republic is. As for Christianity, it is already waning some. I don't think white evangelical Christianity suffers much in the short term, but I do think the long term consequences for it are very good. Which I consider is a good thing.

These people are so so so fucking stupid. Just a little rioting, insurrection, and other criminal behavior while wearing.... that's right my company ID badge.
