Totally Unofficial 2021/22 Premier League Thread (NWT)

I don't really have a comment. I'd love for things to remain the same, barring the implementation of rules that actually lead to more parity.

But I can see why Levy would want us in this thing. COVID squeezed the club at a rally bad time with the stadium etc. I'll follow the team in any case but yeah... pretty gross. Nothing I can do about it.

The quotes in this from Real Madrid, Man U and Juve are comical. I have to wonder when this thing reached its tipping point. Like at what point in time did they have enough clubs and what clubs were they that the others sort of had to go along or risk getting left behind financially. https://www.espn.com/soccer/uefa-ch...ham-among-team-to-participate-in-super-league

I really don't like this at all, but I suspect where they will ultimately head with this is a truly global super league. Give it a decade. They're going to try and unravel FIFA.

Yes, let's quick name all the legendary sports leagues from Marxist nations that maintained incredible competitive balance while under centralized government control and that remain relevant today. WTF.

this is a really weird reaction dude

you just dismissed his criticism out of hand and it seemed as knee-jerk as this follow up

Wait, you mean the super league would want a club from London that has a big following and a shiny new stadium? I'm stunned.

Next up is the global super league less you think the super league wouldn't like a team in New York or LA or Tokyo. Things could literally just be getting started.
Aren't you the most clever! So adorable

Noted that you didn't argue the merits of my point. Cool cool cool. Tight tight tight.

And you obviously knew why they'd want Tottenham, right?

Here's their ideal blueprint (wish I had the UK layered in this link). The question is what clubs want in and are both actually big enough and have the right stadium set up to join in the fun.

The Germans and French may just yet save the game as it presently exists.

No, I don't know why they'd want Tottenham. They aren't an elite club, have never been an elite club, nor do I realistically see them ever becoming an elite club.

If we are picking London clubs with a new stadium to fill some sort of pretend quota then just pluck West Ham after Arsenal and Chelsea. That's at least a proper club with a fantastic history. Tottenham is just.... It's Tottenham, lads.

I hear West Ham and I think Bobby Moore.
I hear Tottenham and I think Jurgen Klinnsman. Or Harry Kane. Or Gareth Bale. Or that Argentine that had a name that sounded like a fish you would catch if you chartered a deep sea fishing boat. AS I think were the initials. Anyway, his name is fishy as fuck.

Neither has won anything of note this god damn century (league cup doesn't count), so tie goes to the captain of the only English team to win an international tournament.

Dude they have three teams from London. This mercenary league doesn't need Tottenham. They just need numbers and they know the infamously tight Daniel Levy would murder his children to get this J.P. Morgan payout.

Also, based on your own fucking link... where is the clamoring for a Stockholm club? That's a massive European city. No mention of fucking Hammarby tho, is there?

Brasky isn't always right but when he is

He is right here.

DM taking Ls upon Ls

Maybe he should go back into hiding? Man City don't seem to still have his love anymore. SHOCKING. And sad.

It's clearly all about money, and Tottenham is one of the richest clubs in the world these days, even if they don't have the history and trophies backing them. You have London, new stadium, decent star power players, recent success (even if not champion level).

I would think the next level in terms of teams with a potential to have the stadium and location to have the ability to get picked into a super league if all the parts come together would be West Ham with the Olympic stadium and maybe Roma if they could get their potential new stadium ever completed. Everton is probably 3rd on that list as they seem to have the next most American followers outside of the power teams and have decent financial backing.

I note your dismissal of Sunderland and Newcastle which have established amazing stadiums.

What’s the ELI5 of the Super League anyways? I haven’t read anything on it other than tweets. What’s the consequences for clubs that move forward? Is there a good summary out there?

Also, Spurs are not a rich club. They remain a feeder club for the true elite clubs.

We all know Harry Kane isn't going to retire a damn Spurs player.

I"m sure if West Ham were one of the 10 most valuable clubs on the planet they'd see things your way. Interesting list when you see who the 12 are without PSG and Bayern.

It would be absolutely hilarious if the PL hits these teams with a 30pt penalty and Spurs/Arsenal get related the year they join the Super League.

What about Ajax?

No relegation/promotion is the worst bit about this farcical nonsense.

I mean, what do you call a rich club? Spurs don't pay elite wages but were the 9th most valuable club in the world (6th in the UK, go figure) in 2019. Large fan base, world-class stadium, yada yada yada.
