WFU Hoops: '21-'22 Roster Construction Thread: +LaRavia/Taylor/Walton/Monsanto/Williams/Sy/Marsh

Forbes will turn losing Ody into a net gain.

Book it. The dude is a winner. Winners find a way and win.

This is a huge loss for us I don't care how you look at it. He improved dramatically throughout the year, This Absolutely Sucks!! I hope Forbes had told him someone one was coming in and he decided his playing time would be limited but I have very serious doubts about that conversation. With skill development this offseason, I think we would've seen a significant improvement this year from Ody... Oh well, on to the next big man I guess..

Don't get me wrong, Ody seemed to be developing just fine but isn't an elite ACC player by any stretch.

I'm sad to see him go. He's been my favorite player since he stepped on campus because he played well above his ranking and played 100% effort every minute on the court.

That said, if we are concerned about Ody being a difference in us making a tourney or not, then we aren't a tourney team.

Forbes will bring in a couple studs to round out the roster.

I like Ody and I think he could have been a starter the next two years (maybe 3), but at the same time every time we lose a player that Manning recruited and coached, we get one step further away from that debacle.

This is the appropriate take.

Good take on this SC DEAC, but just like you, I think it's a loss for us any way you look at it. He has the build, size and potential to be a fine player. This is first player we have lost that I'm truly disappointed to lose. I do like your take on this though.

Creamy he definitely could be a difference maker in us making the tourney based on depth alone(not this year). Even if Forbes brings in a stud it always helps to have depth and he played hard all the time, he was undisciplined and made silly fouls but I believe he would've improved on that this year. Your takes on these are always good Creamy but depth is very important and he was great at the line and I truly think it's a big loss for us. It's not the end of the world for sure because he wasn't there yet, but I like depth and competition at practice.

Now Creamy hopefully you bring the sauce on us landing a new big man in the near future. Cheers my brother.

So we're down to 2 kids returning.

Appears next season is year 1-B for Forbes....again slapping together a roster from scratch.

I hate this transfer portal.

4 players are returning.

Whitt, Mucius, Williamson and Ingraham.

10+ yrs of abject misery don't get reversed in 1 year.

LOL we were terrible last year, we needed to clean house with the roster. we have upgraded the roster significantly and Forbes isnt done. i laugh when people act like we lost a bunch of all ACC players to the portal. we will be much better this year because of the portal. if Forbes adds Brockington and a big no one will care that we lost Ody.

I mean, I like the optimism, but we don't have a top 100 recruit in the country or a top 50 transfer coming in (from the rankings I've seen). Until I see Forbes bring in any "studs", especially big men, I'm going to remain pretty concerned.

Whitt?

I expect us to look like [redacted] Williams' Va Tech teams for a little while: Not overloaded with talent, but frenetic and well coached. It was good enough to get Va Tech to the upper middle of the pack (from 15th to 7th in his 2nd year). Looks like he finished 7th 3 years in a row before moving up to 5th and a sweet 16 in year 5. Hopefully we have a little more prestige and can cut that down by a year or two, but the general pacing seems about right. Like Forbes, Williams relied heavily on transfers to jumpstart his teams.

Season Coach Record Conference Postseason

2018-19 Williams 26-9 12-6 ACC (5th) NCAA Sweet 16
2017-18 Williams 21-12 10-8 ACC (7th) NCAA 1st Round
2016-17 Williams 22-11 10-8 ACC (T-7th) NCAA 1st Round
2015-16 Williams 20-15 10-8 ACC (T-7th) NIT 2nd Round
2014-15 Williams 11-22 2-16 ACC (15th, last) None

I liked Odi a lot and loved his hustle but let's not pretend he was an ACC level center at 6'9" and averaging 7 points and 5 rebounds whilst getting all the minutes he could want. Love the kid but that was probably his ceiling in the ACC.

Yea Ody was a good hustle guy but was terrible offensively.

I think the idea that both of our forward transfers in aren't top 50 is kind of silly.

I like Ody. Seems like a nice kid and really like his hustle, but until he learns to use the backboard and make short shots he will not be an ACC level player. Just too limited offensively. Hope he finds a place where he is happy. Stuck with us last year and that is worth some props

There are a lot of transfers. Every program is recruiting them and you think WF snagged two Top 50 transfers?
