Injury updates

Might need to look at putting one of our corners at safety.

Carson, Ja'Sir, Gavin, Winfield

Move one to safety for speed. Nick needs help

Definitely JaSir the way he was getting abused by Army. We at least could have held them to 42 if not for JaSir giving up td on 4th and 13 and then the late bomb. Either army just discovered a secret weapon or JaSir is regressing badly.

why the injury #narrative triggers me (besides the fact that i find the persistently growing casualty count funny) and i think could even be a potential accountability issue (maybe even a slight blind spot). and they only seemed to start after mike elko departed:

on one hand it does feel silly to complain given how well we are playing, on the other hand it would really suck if just a mediocre defense could have made this an even more historic season than it might end up being.

This is where I’m at, too. And Clawson (who I otherwise love) doesn’t help matters by treating the injury report like it’s documentation of the Kennedy assassination.

Army - ARMY - completed all but 3 of its pass attempts:

1. A clear drop by a wide open man
2. An incredible PBU, last second reaction, breaking up what might have been a TD; and
3. The fake FG amazing recovery by Redd to step in front of a potential TD by the 5th string QB

Love Clawson, and he has been great for WF, and recognize this seems nitpicky when we have our highest ranking since the WEII era, but….

He also doesn’t help matters by playing fast and exposing his defense to more plays and therefore more opportunities to get hurt (especially when fatigued)

The defense this year is like the 2004-2005 basketball defense. It’s not good but doesn’t have to be good- just good enough- to allow offense to out-score everyone. And if the pieces go right- can be a special year. Good news is that it’s much easier to inset your Will in football as opposed to basketball and go on quick drives, etc. Bad news is that you run into that team that Pittsnoggles you. Of the teams left on our schedule - State and BC present the most problems in that they want to slow it down. Clemson is a wildcard because they historically like to play fast but maybe not this year. UNC’s defense is worse than ours- That’s actually a good match up for us. I’m not going to even acknowledge Duke- they are worse than Army.

At this point I'd rather have NCAA-mandated injury reports over documentation of the Kennedy assassination.

You’d think Vegas would be quietly pushing for that.

Why the push for this information? It allows opposition to plan for/against specific absences. Withholding certain information can be a useful tactic that good coaches should exploit. I for one appreciate the gamesmanship.

See, I've gone back and forth here.

Is it in Vegas' best interest to have that info public? Or does Vegas get enough inside info on most college teams that it maintains an advantage over most bettors?

More historic how, like having the best winning margin ever while going undefeated?

When Chip Kelly was at Oregon he said time of possession didn't matter. What mattered to him was the number of possessions.

The Old Trenchfighter was a hell of a man.

The thing we loved about Dooley was the thing VT hated. In the days before bowl tie-ins, Dooley had connections and his goal was to get to a bowl every year. VT didn't want just bowls, they wanted championships, so after a couple of down years he was gone. Getting to bowls was Nirvana for Wake - any bowl. Dooley injected some life into Wake football.

Yeah, but Pittsnoggled is so much more fun to say...

Haha fair enough. I think we all know exactly where we were when we watched that disaster that faithful Saturday evening in March 2005. It’s the WF fan-don version of re-counting the day of 9/11.
