Wake Football News Articles

Interesting how he alludes to early success in 2019 allowing certain players' selfishness to creep in. Shot at Jamie.

Well I think it was clear Jamie knew he was checking out from WF and still played in bowl game when he should have bowed out so not a long reach to consider the guy selfish. That probably didn't help his NFL hopes either as last game of tape on him and he was awful.

DeCock is a douchebag. Full of typical condescending bullshit. Wake is trading places with duke from eight years ago? What the actual fuck. Since 2000 Wake is 16-5 against duke, including a streak of 10 consecutive wins, and four out of the last five.

While we're at it since 2001 (Grobe's first season) we are 6-5 against the world-beating tarholes and and 10-10 against state. We have been steadily improving under Clawson, but it's not like we were the doormat of the Big 4.

You have to look long and hard (that's what she said) to find anything negative in that article from a Wake perspective; lots of praise in there along with (as we often claim) that we don't get the recognition and respect we deserve. I hope we do trade places with Duke from 8 years ago, as they won their division and make it to the championship game. The biggest difference between current Wake and 2013 Duke was that Duke was 6-2 at this point with no chance of making either the top 10 or the college playoff, and for us that dream is still alive.

It seemed condescending with backhanded compliments. I don’t give a shit about media coverage. Just saying it’s hilarious to try and make it sound like duke passed us the football torch or some bullshit.

Yeah, even in an ostensibly positive column about Wake he leads off with Wake fans leaving early to beat the traffic. Fuck off.

What is interesting about journalists and their bowl predictions? We are 2 months away and we all have the same information they do right now.

I don't care much for bowl predictions, either - I had been hoping that there was some of the "analysis" promised in the headline below the paywall, but it seems there was not

I went to that Reddit thread and of course a bunch of Notre Dame fans had to jump in LOOK HOW SPECIAL AND IMPORTANT WE ARE

Very cool in-depth article about Wake Football

Dave Clawson has created college football version's of Moneyball at Wake Forest

-here are two excerpts I found interesting

“…Wake's offensive coordinator, Warren Ruggiero, compared Clawson's approach to Steve Jobs': "You can't look at the competition and say you're going to do it better. You have to look at the competition and say you're going to do it differently."

Clawson's first two years at Wake were a slog, both ending with a 3-9 record, but he saw progress. The freshmen offensive linemen working with the scout team began to hold their own against the first-team defense. John Wolford, the QB he threw into the fire as a true freshman in 2014, weathered the storm. His early recruiting classes filled with raw material began to look like ACC-caliber players.

"The key to our success is to find the guys who can still develop and become as good as those four- and five-star guys," Clawson said. "They're not missing anything physically. It's just a year of development. I really believe a lot of our players, after a year of development in our program, they'd be four-star players."

…It was the end of Phillip Fulmer's run as head coach, the staff was new, and the team was bad. Clawson became a target for fan outrage, and at year's end, despite the three-year contract he signed, Clawson and the entire staff were let go.

Looking back, Clawson admits the experience was miserable, but he said he learned from it. He appreciates the patience he has been afforded at Wake Forest, and Clawson believes in its culture.

It would be nice to get a little acclaim for the success, but he knows that's a double-edged sword.

"I'm very happy where I'm at," Clawson, 54, said. "In this profession, if you're happy and enjoy where you're at, you don't feel a need to look."

Bonagura has us in the Peach Bowl vs. Michigan and Schlabach has us Fiesta Bowl vs. ND

That means that they are thinking that we will lose a regular season game but still win the ACC Championship. Or that we will go undefeated but not make the CFP.
