Official 2021-22 NBA Offseason Thread - Warriors extend Poole and Wiggins

Hawks seem to be a team that relies a great deal on hype and momentum and hot hand and when that’s not flying they aren’t great

this seems like devastating news for zion. lingering foot problems for his body? he already looked fat when completely healthy. this is getting bleak. #tooathletic #toofat

He’s 21 years old and it feels like his career is in the brink simply because his body can’t handle it.

I heard a talking head relay a conversation that went something like this.

Insider: The Mavs are worried about Luka’s weight because he came into the season at 260.
Talking head: 260! If Luka is 260, how much does Zion weight?
Insider: Add about 70 to that.

think about lebron. he has squeezed 101% out of his body by being in tip top shape throughout his career. he's spends like $2 million on his body a year. i think this is about 50/50 for superstars to treat their bodies this way but lebron is the epitome of this

but i dont blame luka. he's the shit. i would not gaf what anyone told me if i was as good as him. he's also fat. same goes for zion, harden, shaq, et al.

If Luka maxed out his body, he could be as good as Lebron. I don’t think he could get Lebron’s body but he could unlock a level of athleticism and ability he doesn’t yet have at his age. It would prolong his career and support the savvy old man game he’s bound to have.

If Zion can never get it together, I’ll feel like the game of basketball was robbed by not having him at near 100%. I don’t think he will be an all time great but he’ll be an all time great fun player to watch.

im sure luka's old man game is partially the reason he doesn't gaf. lebron lived or died by his athleticism when he came into the league. he's developed old man game as the years have gone by but hes always rightfully tried to protect that part of his game as much as he could.

luka was never great bc of his blow by or leaping ability. so he orders dessert and misses the morning workout. but he would actually be better if he was in shape. also seems like a personality thing that wont likely change.

Luka looked fat as hell at the start of the season but he was on the court so he gets a pass

Maybe but the difference is the hawks have a seemingly good roster

Maybe they punched above their weight last season or maybe it’s early and they’ll make another run this year

As someone who watches the Hawks a lot, it’s both of these.

Delon Wright has not been very good this year as the backup PG, which sucks because that was the biggest hole on the team last year too. This Hawks team will never be great on defense, but they’re playing below their potential on that end by quite a bit. Getting Reddish and Hunter healthy at the same time (maybe this is just a pipe dream at this point) would be a big help.

But yeah, I think they’ll be fine and make the playoffs as a middle (3-6) seed. But they also have a lot more expectations on them than they probably should simply because the 76ers imploded in a couple playoff games last year.

That’s insane. Lebron has got to be looking longingly at the over .500 Cavs.

Nugs were up on the Spurs by 29 at the end of the 3rd. Malone took the starters out. The Spurs deep bench went on a 16-0 run and Malone put the starters back in. I respect Pop for leaving his starters out.

Legit defensive masterpiece from Matisse tonight, holding Steph to 3-14 from three. Awesome defensive performance overall, good scheme to double and trap Steph and over rotate. Just out worked the Warriors. Good stuff.

I’m not counting on Zion this year.

Pelicans' Zion Williamson to reduce training for 'extended period' after foot rehab setback https://theathletic.com/news/pelica...period-after-foot-rehab-setback/v62rzEP0l4OG/

When I see this all I see is another dookie that has some weird issue in the NBA, although I think many said his weight would become an issue in the League. It's just weird, Wake puts a low percentage of players into the League that have durable long careers, some very successful (Duncan, Paul Collins) or consistant rotation (Ish, Johnson, Teague), but dook with all it's AA's and ACC PoY, are more likely to flame out or crash out than sustain.

One ranking of dook's top NBA players
10 - Laettner - ok sure not going in the HOF after NCAA PoY and ACC PoY
9 - Boozer - sure screwed the blind owner of the Cavs. Not HOF
8 - Tatum - probably one of the few dookies you would take on your NBA team, if you could choose from all dookies all time
7 - Zion - well a whooping 82 games. Sounds like Oden
6 - Mullins (Jeff) - not HoF, but a long career with some all-star games
5 - Battier - I think on of the few dookies (maybe 2) with an NBA title. ACC PoY but NBA role player with a long career.
4 - Deng - an early one and done (maybe he figure he better get out of the kaye system fast). Still not HOF
3 - Brand - 17 years in the League with a couple of all star games. Not HoF
2 - Irving - played 11 games at dook. I guess an anit-vaxer who I guess didn't go to any classes at dook to learn about science. Some nasty dook like injuries.
1 - Grant Hill - 7 all star games, but huge injury issues missing nearly 4 years.

My only point (ok I hate dook so there are other points) is that despite dook being bestowed AA after AA and ACC PoY and NPoY awards that's the best of the best. Wake has a shorter list that goes like:

6. John Collins - consistent top performer
5. Rodney Rodgers - long solid career
4. Josh Howard - ACC PoY - NBA All-Star
3. Bogues - maybe most domininat little man in NBA history
2. CP3 - HOF career
1. Tim Duncan - HOF

I don't know what you are trying to prove with that list, but I look at Duke's list and see almost everyone one it has at least one Natty. They were able to win with those bums and our sorry school has all that all-time talent and jack shit to show for it.
