I’m all for sound social reform and putting $$ behind it but no way would I support the Government just eliminating student debt. I would consider doing so for specific occupations like teachers or medical workers to name two. But across the board; no way. The villains here are the banks and their absurd interest rates and colleges themselves who have totally over charged for the educations they deliver while their endowments grow by millions every year.

What separates the “politically astute” republicans you venerate from basically all Democrats is that republicans don’t provide this kind of context to their voters, or ask them to engage critically at all. Whereas with Dems it’s always yes you can have your shiny treat, in fact I’ll make it a campaign promise but when I get elected you better believe we need to pay for it responsibly and make sure everybody is onboard and means test it to make sure the right people benefit and by the time the treat is ready your voters hate you all over again.

The things Biden could unilaterally do with a stroke of a pen and chooses not to will be the bigger story than the intractable congress or the Maserati driving and yacht owning Manchin saying he doesn’t trust the poor to spend money wisely.

Pretty sure he is saying that leftists and progressive activists “set the narrative” for Republican attacks on Democrats with unrealistic political goals and polarizing activism and rhetoric. ChrisL basically demands leftist electoral support in general elections, but otherwise doesn’t want to be connected in any way to leftists
