the official new supreme court thread - Very political

Well, you still haven't shown that C's are actually harmed by B's. In fact, C's seems to favor affirmative action over not having it by a very large margin. It also seems like preferences give to certain A's based on legacy, donations, sports do more harm to C's than B's ever would. Maybe it is time for you to C your way out of this conversation with another L.

We don't decide Constitutional cases based upon opinion polls. The burden isn't on C to tolerate. The discriminating party has the burden and they've got their work cut out for them.

The goal of the law is to take a small step towards undoing centuries of oppression and exclusion.

According to UNC—you know, the party who adopted the policy—that is not the goal of the policy. The goal of the policy is to better educate students through exposure to a diverse student body. I’ve posted this 3 times now. Why is this so difficult to understand?

Better educating students through exposure to a diverse student body IS a small step towards undoing centuries of oppression and exclusion.

Lack of exposure to different people due to neighborhood segregation, school segregation, family segregation, social segregation, church segregation, etc can be directly traced to centuries of oppression and exclusion.

See the fascist, racist, oppressive state of the Republican party after cannibalizing its ranks who refused the deep dive into conspiracy-laden alternate reality.

Are C's Asian Americans? If so, there is statistical evidence that affirmative action in college admissions is harmful to them.

Of course there is also statistical evidence that absence of affirmative action is also harmful to African Americans. Generally the only group not affected is white people. Why are they the ones taking up the fight here?

I haven't seen it discussed on this thread, so I apologize if I'm asking something that's already been answered. If the justified remedy to help B in turn results in harm to C, can it legally still stand?

These questions have already been answered and the Supreme Court has ALREADY DECIDED THE ISSUE.

Well, them genius conservatives now in charge gots lots of established precedent whut needs fixin’.

More to come.

What the fuck is Breyer doing? He better die this year since I don’t think he’s gonna retire.

If its not Ketanji Brown Jackson, that will be huge surprise. Could VP Harris use this as an out for the 2024 election? Maybe but I doubt it.

How long until Manchin says he doesn't think there should be a confirmation hearing before the midterms?

Sinema more likely to pull a stunt like that I think.

Brown-Jackson was put on the court of appeals with a 53-44 vote, Graham and Murkowski are actually on record voting for her just last year. Though in all honesty I doubt she will get both their support this time through. Amazing world we live in. Gotta love when putting a new judge on the court will be by a razor thin margin and does nothing against a super majority.

Kinda mad Barca didn’t use his powers on [Redacted], Manning, or Wellman, but whatever.

Could be either. Manchin has confirmed some other justices, but he went on Foxnews to announce his non support for BBB, so who knows what he will do with the spotlight on him. Sinema seems to get a kick out of being quirky for the sake of quirky, so who knows?
