Also boys... Leaving tomorrow to spend the night in Vegas before spending 4 nights in Zion.

Right now the plan is to hit Angels Landing, Narrows, and Subway trails. We are getting dry suits to do the Narrows, and we had to put in for a permit on the subway trail.

Anyone got any other suggestions? We are camping right outside of the park and are thinking of doing a canyoneering trip in Bryce Canyon one day as well.

Y'all got any other suggestions?

You mean after you go to College Station tonight.

Is the Angels Landing permit system in effect now? If not I would suggest getting there as early as possible. We stayed in the Lodge last March and walked from there to the trail. We started in the dark. Even so it was starting to get crowded by the time we made our way back down. The last stretch before the summit is a pain if there are lots of people.

Anyway Zion is one of my favorite national parks. Spotted Dog is the only restaurant in Springdale we really love.

My dad and sister did Angels Landing. I've seen their pictures and other Youtube videos. Major nope for me, and I'm not even particularly afraid of heights. I'll get my adrenaline fix skiing near (or occasionally off small) cliffs, not slowly walking along them with hundreds of other tourists. Gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.

That said, Zion/Bryce/Arches/Moab look epic and have been on the bucket list for a while. It's dumb we haven't gone as much as I go out to Utah for work.

It looks scary but once you start and just focus on your next step it is not too bad. I think it would be bad when crowded though. Some dude who has not been off his couch since 2019 could bump you off the edge.

Observation Point is a good alternative though. You actually go higher than Angels Landing. You look down on it. You get great views, pass through a narrow canyon (not sure it is officially a slot canyon), might see bighorn sheep, and almost certainly won’t die.

Civil work seems so different. Prepping for trial for a year is almost unheard of in federal criminal court. Typically, two months and we're balls deep picking a jury.

This case was originally set for June 2020 and was postponed because of Covid. Petitions were first filed in 2017.

This is the last weekend before the permit process goes into place, which means it will be packed.

I am also absolutely terrified of this trail.

Really digging Life After Life right now. Anyone read it?

Damn - some of this sleep stuff sounds horrific. I guess I should be happy my worst issues are usually either one of the other three mammals I share a bed with crowding me out - or the occasional haven't done a single bit of work all year for the class in which I have an exam tomorrow dream.

I think my experiences with sleep paralysis didn't start until my late twenties, but I can't remember exactly. Hopefully they'll disappear in the next decade like junebug's did.

Always been a sleep talker though. And I couldn't sleep on the top bunk in college because every time I did I fell out and only barely missed dying a horrible death

I’ve got a history of really bad sleep paralysis that has involved the standard paralysis, my bed jumping up and down, spirits flying over me, the walls bleeding, and very vivid nightmares of my (now) wife stabbing me with a Chef’s knife.

It seems to have gone away now that I use a CPAP. But it got so common that I would recognize it for what it was.

Oh fuck me -- that's terrifying.

Happened to me exactly one time about 12 years ago or so and I still remember it. Bathroom door was open and there was a shadow in there moving closer and closer and I couldn't move, and I thought I was awake, and it was the most terrifying experience of my life.

That's pretty much the game. Except every night

I know it's wrong to assume that my fix will work for everyone, but you should try sleeping on your side if you haven't already. The paralysis doesn't happen for me on my side, and when I rolled over on my back in my sleep and it happened, I was often able to perceive what was going on and control it.

maybe you guys should just have less dreams and paralysis #bootstrapyoursleep
