I think you hate UNC more (or whatever this dumb argument is) because you graduated from Duke, my dude.

Having not attended either I find it very easy to dislike them both at a high level!

They both suck. Real ones know!

This is the way. They both suck for different reasons.

Yeah, not my experience at all growing up in Winston, phdeac. My experience is much closer to strick's.

Growing up in the middle class, in ardmore, attending public schools, I knew lots of annoying Carolina fans, but they for the most part were from the state of North Carolina or their family went to school there.

I don't remember knowing a single duke alumnus growing up, but my school was peppered with awful duke fans (including manifestdestiny, who split his fandom with wake), none of whom knew anybody that went there, or cared about football.

Carolina, as an institution, attracts all kinds of students and fans, some annoying, some despicable, and some who don't care at all about sports.

duke attracts only one kind of student and fan -- slytherins

Just checking in and offering my thoughts about how both unc and dook suck. We tend to do better when I don't post (See Dr. Sam Hartman and our football team this year), but God decided to play an especially cruel trick on us by getting unc and dook to the final four the first year we were worth a shit.

I'm all in on Forbes, all in on Clawson, and John Currie showed in like a year and a half how easy it is to be competitive here if you don't handicap yourself.

don't be fooled by unc fans, they seem friendly enough, but ALL OF THEM are capable of throwing a punch through your drywall if some 20 year old misses some important free throws. they've all been brainwashed with the carolina way bullshit, which is built on a lie. it is important to enjoy when they lose.

The UNC fans who “don’t care about sports” go all in when the Holes are winning.

This was my experience growing up in eastern NC in the 90s

See, I grew up middle class near Charlotte, just outside of the metro area, and EVERYONE was a Carolina fan...and while there were plenty of true fans, most were bandwagoners that just showed up on UNC/Duke days. There was a handful of Duke fans, none any more well-off than the rest of the school, and they were all actual fans that could name more than 1 or 2 players on the team (except football, which I don't remember anyone on either side caring about football, that was the golden days of ACC Basketball being dominant).

The main point being NO ONE, save maybe 1 or 2 people, had parents that went to either school. So it wasn't a matter of staying true to familial bonds. It was all bandwagon stuff.

So throw in that the split was something like 95% UNC / 5% Duke, you can see why it'd be a little worse to have UNC win or to pull in any way for UNC.

But again, everyone has different experiences, there are no universal truths. (Other than both shades of blue suck today in all of our lives).

I grew up with tons of Duke fans. Most of them also were Cowboys fans. And Yankees fans.

Ding ding ding. Was just telling a friend about this phenomenon. New neighbor just moved in across the street and hung a yankees flag. 90% chance he's a cowboys fan and 100% chance he's either Duke or Carolina fan.

Or my favorite "I pull for Duke hoops, but I really like Michael Jordan and those 90s Bulls teams".

The idea that NC country clubs are filled with Duke grads may be the dumbest part of Ph’s dumb post, but it’s hard to say.

Duke alum trying to argue Duke is a school of the people is pretty rich

It’s sad how you all don’t read posts while criticizing them. I specifically mentioned out of state Wake kids, not kids from NC. I also specially said people who hate UNC more than Duke are of the people whereas people who hate Duke more tend to not have has as much interaction with UNC fans, again out of staters.

I’m of the opinion that Carolina sports can get fucked, but the university is something the state can be proud of and Chapel Hill is a fun college town.

The university has not given NC residents a lot to be proud of the last couple years.

But yeah I enjoy the bars and restaurants along Franklin street.

You just have a farcical narrative.
