Next year’s football team

Fantastic interview posted today. I realize the interviewer is a Deacon. Just don't recall whom. Probably a poster on the board.

Kevin Smith. He was a Caldwell era football player.

Came out today Wisconsin-Ohio State will be on ABC the day of Clemson-Wake, though they didn't go ahead and announce a game time.

That they're valuing the game that highly to go ahead and announce that -- and that it isn't going to wind up on Fox -- suggests maybe a decreased likelihood Clemson-Wake will be on primetime on ABC, unless ND can shock the Buckeyes in Week 1. Otherwise both teams shouldn't lose before that game.

Also probably diminishes our chances of a return GameDay visit that week as well, I imagine ESPN will be looking to cut down on Herbie's travel this year where possible. And oh BTW the Thurs night game that week is in Cleveland

You’re thinking of a different Kevin Smith. The podcaster Kevin Smith is definitely Caldwell era.

Was this the Kevin Smith you were thinking of?

Exactly. Clemson's DL gave everyone problems last year, including the eventual national champions who scored 3 points on offense against Clemson. Any scheme is going to have problems against a defense with NFL talent. WF's offense did comparatively well against the Tigers. Clemson scored 48 against WF. WF wasn't going to win 49-48. In the games Clemson lost last year, they scored 3, 14 and 17 in regulation. Clemson's offense was putrid last year; yet, they shredded the WF defense. Don't understand how people can look back at the Clemson game and claim the offense was problem. Before playing WF, Clemson's O was averaging less than 20 ppg against Power V defenses.

Bad turnover at end of 1H when it looked like we'd get at least 3 as well at least one (but i'm thinking two) turnovers deep in our our territory. But yes, the D got shredded. I really think that if we had completed the sack on DJU on that first 3rd and long where he hit some guy streaking down the sideline after we had him dead to rights that game goes differently. And if we get the obvious PI calls in the first quarter that would have kept drives alive.

Gameday has already announced they'll be in Columbus week 1 for the ND game. Seems very unlikely they'd be back again 3 weeks later.

Definitely worth a listen. A couple of tidbits in it upthe odds that Wake is Clawson's dream job and not just one more rung on the ladder. Gives more confidence that when he leaves Wake it will be for permanent retirement.

That video shows why the Wake offense is hard to stop. And also how critical the QB's ability to read the defense is. In the mesh 2 seconds, Sam is reading three defenders and deciding among 4 or 5 possible plays. Sam has done this a lot, so as long as he is healthy, the Wake offense should roll again in 22.

Wesley Grimes, WR, Wake Forest
247Sports Composite: No. 339

Wake Forest was one of the best passing teams in college football last year, and that’s expected to again be the case with QB Sam Hartman returning. The Demon Deacons lose two of their top five receivers but will benefit from the return of Donavon Green from an ACL tear. Still, there will be plenty of targets to go around and Grimes, one of two four-star signees in Wake Forest’s 2022 class, is expected to have a role in the rotation.

I forgot about Stewart for a moment. I think we will be better this year.

Love the WF skill position talent (wouldn't be surprised if WF has 4 receivers on the 2022 roster that will make an NFL roster), and we have the offensive minds to exploit that talent. A little concerned about the OL, with the loss of Zach Tom, but have faith that the WF strength and conditioning program will improve the push from those that return.

Too bad we don't have a good QB. If you read all the crap being put out by the so called experts, we don't even have one of the top 5 qbs in the ACC. Oh if we just had Leary or some new transfer. They will all eat their words by the end of the year.

16. Wake Forest (previous: No. 18)

Dave Clawson’s offense will very likely light up the scoreboard again behind standout QB Sam Hartman, WRs A.T. Perry and Donavon Greene and a veteran O-line that returns intact. But they won’t likely win 11 games again unless their defense improves under new DC Brad Lambert. DEs Rondell Bothroyd and Jasheen Davis can be disruptors up front but the linebackers and secondary need to allow fewer big plays.
