Official 2022 College Football Thread: Georgia is Back to Back Champions !!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Texas A&M's schedule is brutal. they went into the season (really stupidly) thinking CFP, but their only sure win is UMass in Nov.

Miami
Arkansas (neutral)
@MS St
@Bama
@SCAR
Ole Miss
UF
@Auburn
Umass
LSU
That schedule looks tough based on name recognition. Are we really sure that anybody outside of Bama and Arkansas are good? Ole Miss, Miss St, and Miami might be. Would anybody be surprised if that whole list averaged out to 6-6?

I'll also point out again that Duke offered 4 free tickets to any University or Health System faculty/staff and also the option to purchase an additional 4 tickets for only $5 each. Between that and A&T fans buying tickets I'm not going to be impressed with Duke football fans because of this "sellout"

Auburn scraped by San Jose st. And their athletic department is in shambles. Looking like a long year on the plains

Yeah. We saw your humble brag the first time.

Pretty certain Miss. State is very good, agree with the rest of the group of Miami, Ole Miss and would add LSU, may not be very good. This is year #3 of Leach in Starkville, and that is the year his team's always takeoff. Leach has a 3 year starter at QB, Will Rogers, and they have played two teams (@ Arizona and Memphis) that pounded their other opponent, and Miss State worked both teams. Miss State is completing 79% of their passes, and their defense has been solid. The issue for Miss State is their SEC schedule. As the Bulldogs, TN, Vandy (hilarious) and Auburn are the SEC teams that play both UGA and Bama, and Miss. State's other SEC East opponent is KY, who may be the 2nd best team in the East. So, their schedule is daunting, but if they stay healthy, Miss State will win 10 games this year.

Getting free tickets to a Duke football game is not any kind of brag.

Also I definitely did not take them up on the offer. Though it would’ve been fun to claim some tickets then leave the seats empty.

This is unusual. Duke University or Health System faculty/staff aren't usually known for their humility.

Texas spent $280K on the weekend when it hosted Arch Manning and seven other recruits. Four of those eight recruits have committed to TX. On another weekend, TX spent $350K when hosted 14 recruits (12 committed). Among other tidbits from the Athletic Article which was based on a FOIA request as Texas is amping up its recruiting efforts as compared to other Power V teams:

The $630,000 total on two weekend visits shows how much Texas has invested in recruiting compared to recent years. Athletic Director U published NCAA financial reports that showed Texas spent $1,275,368 on recruiting for the 2019 fiscal year. That was the 13th most spent on recruiting that year, which was led by Georgia at $3,676,858.

The Bulldogs spent $2.7 million on recruiting in 2020, which was affected by recruiting restrictions spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The increase in recruiting spending is not unusual to see, as the Orlando Sentinel reported in July that the University of Florida Athletic Association increased its football spending by $4.72 million recently, with $700,000 added to the recruiting budget. That was a 55% increase that gave new coach Billy Napier close to a $2 million budget for recruiting and does not include Napier's access to two private jets with a budget of $839,000, according to the report.

$3,676,858

I wonder how much that is per recruit. Let's say Georgia is involved with 150-200 recruits beyond a form letter/text/email. That's around $20,000 per prospect to get 25 or so of them to commit beyond the on-field performance which should recruit for itself.

For the players who actually come, they're probably spending more than the equivalent of 5 years of in-state tuition on recruiting.

Holy crap. 8 tickets for $20. That's a P5 football team folks. Remarkable the apathy for Duke football.

I wish there was a way to turn off the ESPN bottom line. I’m watching FSU/Louisville… I don’t give a shit about the Royals/Red Sox score. And if I did, I’d look it up on my phone.

What year is it? 1995?

Maybe all this competition from other providers will force them to pay a bit more attention to what the viewer wants.

They should make bottom line for your phone. I’m going to be out with the family tomorrow and it would be nice to just glance at the phone for a quick scroll of the games I care about.

How else would you know that France and Spain are playing for the EuroBasket championship?
