CTXXXIII - weird goodbyes

Anybody on here an attorney in Massachusetts and/or know someone who handles small business formation or general LLC stuff? Yes, I appreciate the irony of the question given I'm the most likely to know the answer to that, but that wasn't the area of the legal world I operated in and I can't think of a good option off the top of my head. One of my wife's friends is launching his own project in the restaurant world and needs some general guidance on either transferring existing ownership of an LLC over or just launching his own. I looked over it and there isn't much complication to it in general but it's not an area I'd just advise someone to do it on their own and then find out later they forgot to dot i's or cross t's.

isn't Timmy a lawyer? sounds like you've got a job for him

Timmy, how old are you? Because this is much funnier if you're in your mid thirties compared to mid twenties.
I'm 36, I've been out of law school for over a decade. I started with a nonprofit in August, I thought it would be a chance to do some good. @IamThunderbolt absolutely warned me about what I was getting myself into, but I obviously overlooked some things.

What's a reasonable rate for insurance for a research consulting LLC? I mostly need professional liability insurance but it looks like I need to get general liability as well.

For Prof Liab + GL probably in the $300-$600/yr range

*at least in the Mid Atlantic

Thanks. The online quotes I'm getting are $700+. That didn't seem right. I'd appreciate any recommendations.

I got a bait and switch with Geico/Hiscox. The initial quote was around $350 then it took me "review" my answers and it shot up to over $750.

The professional liability will probably be the X factor as it's specific to industry and those 'risks' can vary wildly -

consulting for a librarian or a physician, etc etc.

I just bought a powerball ticket so when I win I’ll pay your salary until you find a less soul crushing job.

Thanks. This is helpful. I just emailed a colleague with a similar business to see what he says.

Oh. NONPROFIT.

This makes so much more sense now.

My wife did a couple of nonprofits over a 5 year period and had some truly wild and whacky bosses.

Erewhon basically seems like Bi-Rite (SF institution) without the good ice cream

Currently planning my powerball vacation homes. Are their any LA neighborhoods as walkable and nice as, say, West Village?

Just made a "verification video" for Google to add us to Google Maps and give us recognition in their metrics as a legitimate business. This seems like insane hoops to jump through. It had to include outdoor signage, documentation evidencing that we are a permanent business including certificate of occupancy and use as well as permanent furniture showing we aren't a seasonal business.

There just can't be that much Google company fraud trying to get verified online to necessitate this right? They said after this that it will take up to 3 business days to review and "determine if we are a legitimate business." I mean...just seems like a lot.
