2023 Carolina Panthers thread - HOF Julius Peppers

And no chance the Bears go back to #9 without getting 2024 #1, 2025 #1 and this years #9 and 2nd rd pick.
So...no chance of Car moving to #1
If somebody gives all that up to then draft CJ Stroud, that would instantly become the worst trade in NFL history. Hell, just trading the #9 pick in this year's draft alone for CJ Stroud would be an awful trade.

I saw Stroud mocked to Panthers with the 9th pick yesterday.
Yeah, I've seen that, but it ain't happening at 9. The importance of QB means they're always picked quicker than they should be. It'll depend some on what Sea, Atl and LV do in FA. But Stroud ain't lasting past 4. And if Sea is sticking with Smith long term, they're auctioning off 5 to the highest bidder, so I don't think you get Levis at 9 either.

In looking at potential Rodgers destinations, I just don't buy LV because they have no D or OL. NYJ makes sense. But I think Carolina also makes sense - you have a good D, an improving OL and decent weapons. And he wouldn't have to go up against all the AFC juggernauts. FWIW

I'm all for getting Rodgers and drafting another WR and a TE.

Maybe y'all need to bone up on you cleanses and astrology. Rodgers may not cost that much in terms of draft compensation because he'll probably only play 2-3 more years, and I expect the picks might be conditional.

I’d love it if he came as cheap as Brady was for the Bucs. They had plenty of cap room for talent.

This team is so bad at TE that signing a decent FA for a reasonable deal would be a massive improvement. Tonyan is a FA and he’d be a good get especially with Rodgers.

makes the ian thomas contract last offseason even more strange

it's a decent draft for tight end

we probably won't be in range for mayer (assuming we take a QB in the 1st), but these guys are all solid prospects that I think would be an upgrade over Ian and Trembley:

Musgrave - Oregon State
Dalton Kincaid - Utah
Darnell Washington - UGA
LaPorta - Iowa

I'm a huge Packers fan first and foremost. Rodgers is all about Rodgers. That guy isn't going to rework his contract to get on any team for any reason. I don't care if it guaranteed him another ring, he still wouldn't do it. I am so sick of him and can't wait for him to be out of GB. Please don't even toss around the idea of that asshole coming to the Panthers.

Former Georgia golfer calls out Rodgers.

I'm sensing more Panthers fans would rather have Rodgers than LJ8. If your choices are trade up for Stroud or Levis (potentially expensive), AR at 9, Rodgers, LJ8, Carr or Jimmy G, who do you choose? And fwiw, I agree with you about Rodgers behavior - he's the biggest passive aggressive drama queen in the sport.

Wilks is the new Niners DC.

how would we feel about derek carr? he will be cut so will be a FA, won’t have to give up any draft capital for him and get BPA at 9. he is better than the rotating door we’ve had between bridgewater/darnold/PJ/baker but still tough to get super psyched about him

Pretty much. He's a good placeholder until they get a franchise QB, but if they don't draft one now I don't know how they'll get him.

I think the scary thing about Lamar Jackson is that if you sign him, he IS your guy/team for the next 6 - 8 years, whether he’s healthy or not. Rodgers for a couple seasons or Carr for 3 isn’t as scary of a commitment. That’s assuming though we wouldn’t give Carr a super long term deal. However, at least Jackson wouldn’t keep us in half measure hell.
