Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

Honestly, this is the kind of game that makes all of my hopes come crashing down. Just entirely unacceptable. Losing in baseball happens. But this many errors is just fucking insane.
Same. Not that I had many hopes to begin with. As I’ve said many of times we aren’t going anywhere with Walter at the helm. Shit like tonight has happened too many times to count in his tenure. Fundamentals have been optional along with questionable pitching decisions and will continue to be that way as long as he’s here.

As always though I’ll pull for my Deacs every game.

Really thought we'd win this before it started. Looking at Coastal's record, I felt Duke would be our likely first loss. This is not an Omaha CC team.

I hope they had fun at the stripper clubs last night. God damn varsity blues game.

Hopefully this was just a poor game that we were checked out mentally for whatever reason. Everyone loses in baseball but you only see 7 errors in little league.

Defense has been a constant issue under Walter for a decade. Doesn’t matter how many runs we score if we can’t catch and throw.

Wonder if playing on dirt and grass rather than the field turf had anything to do with not catching the ball clean on about every ground ball. Just a weird game all around. Its going to be fun beating them on the return trip 16-1.

7 errors, 2 HBP's and a wild pitch - that was the worst baseball performance I have ever watched. Wake is college baseball's version of UNC basketball - Boiling in Overhype. I also can't recall another team yelling/shouting directly at our bench and players. Bender deserved a fastball in his earhole alone after that bat flip. Wake kind of takes on the persona of their manager. That said, I really like to watch Hawke play - wish the rest of the team can bring that kind of emotion.

If that’s the case then god help us going forward

We just played the worst game in this history of baseball, and we were right there with a chance to win it. Everyone calm the hell down a minute. A hot team partied a little too serious in Myrtle beach and it bit them in the ass. Chill out a minute.

We’ve watched this story before. Walter teams can have all the talent in the world but they always lack in fundamentals. We just saw that again and it’s completely valid for us to worry that these simple fundamentals are yet again lacking.

Meh. It’s a midweek game during SB in a town where folks party. We’re 13-1 just pump the breaks.

Our fielding has been good last year and this year so far. This game is on the players not Walter.

I expected the pessimists and Walter haters to emerge whenever our first loss was, but everyone needs to chill out.

We were never going undefeated. We played horrendously and if you take away just one or two of the many, many mistakes we still manage to win that game.

You have a sample size of 13 games in which we have made minimal mistakes, and one awful game in which we made a lot. If you choose to believe the one game represents who we truly are, that’s on you

Deserved a fastball in his earhole ? For a bat flip ?

This is the epitome of old baseball stupid. Good for that kid for flipping the bat. Good for anyone for flipping the bat. If I hit a HR against Wake I would have whipped out my schlong and twirled it like an f-ing lasso.

It’s a game. Have fun. Don’t want a bat flip against you ? Don’t throw cock high fastballs

I don't know but my guess is, "yes", particularly Brock's error. If it is truly a factor, then why not have kept the old dirt field on campus and practice on it before a scheduled grass game?
