WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Glad the ACC is sending their best team to Maui to represent the conference well.

Should really help the ACC to have Syracuse get their shit pushed in for a few days by good teams from other conferences.

Aren't there restrictions on international athletes getting NIL? RTQ will have to be creative. Do they have anything with Cam or Marsh?
Short answer is yes re: restrictions.

In terms of being creative, you are correct. We have some things in the works

one of the many crummy things about expansion is that it (along with the lost decade) has moved us further south in the conference pecking order for preseason tournaments.

WF used to be behind Duke/UNC but solidly in that next tier along with GT/State/Maryland/UVA...now we get bypassed in favor of Cuse and UL on name recognition, and UVA and Miami on on-court performance.

how does Wake get into those little 4-team events that are in like MSG and stuff and always have some combo of UNC/Duke/Mich St/Kansas/Kentucky/Gonzaga. Or even the next tier down.

Ah, remember that now. My sister in law who is a huge UCLA fan was visiting for Thanksgiving.

JJ Starling from Notre Dame enters the portal.

2022 5 star recruit. From NY, so I don't know if we will get a look, but I'd imagine Forbes reaches out.

Seems like Oats may get involved there. He was on him in HS (along with a ton of others).

Saw some Twitter speculation that he might head to Syracuse.

I don't think Starling is a fit for us. Obviously talented, but he was a pretty poor shooter this season. More turnovers than assists.

When I look him up on KP, the #1 comp for him is CMM... Which is funny.

Keep an eye on this one:

Miller was out for most of the year. All freshman MAC player, led CMU in scoring (13 ppg) as a frosh, led MAC in assists in conference games as a freshman.

So here is what we know about WF's schedule for next year:

OOC:
1. in a Thanksgiving week tournament in Grand Cayman including Drake, Ole Miss, SFA, and Oakland along with 3 other teams
2. at Georgia
3. home vs. Rutgers
4. At Xavier (Skip Classic) (probable)

ACC:
Home and home with: Duke, UVA, VT, NC State, Pitt, GT
Home only: Miami, Clemson, Cuse, Louisville
Away only: UNC, Notre Dame, FSU, BC

That OOC is not appetizing at all

Throw in an SEC/ACC game and see if maybe we can schedule 1-2 other P5 games.

Watch Sean Miller can the Skip game leaving a big void to fill. It would be nice to get a Q1 game in the challenge. Maybe an Auburn or Arkansas. Although the first year of this thing will try to generate buzz so it is more likely to be Vandy or Mizzou.
