Not that it matters, but Cooley has a daughter at G'town.Twitter saying Cooley to Georgetown has some real legs... But not a done deal.
A few things may be at work:Notre Dame ain't paying a men's basketball coach Holtmann money. I would not be surprised if Kelsey gets a look from them and also Shrewsberry (although I think he ends up taking the Georgetown job after Cooley stays at Providence).
I was going to push back on this, but damn, mighty mouse is pushing 50.Horrible hire by GT. Old and rich is no way to build a program.
Being a college basketball Coach is a 24/7 job. It takes full commitment these days. All in like your entire legacy depends on it. Stoudamire's legacy, like Manning and so many other of these efforts in the past, has long since been solidified. He will not have the hunger for the job. This is no retirement hobby. It will not work.I was going to push back on this, but damn, mighty mouse is pushing 50.
I actually agree with DR a little bit of this one. I think going from a career NBA coach to college is a big transition. You have to juggle so much more than just basketball, and that takes a certain hunger to overwork yourself planning, recruiting, dealing with athletes and a system that is more than just basketball, etc.
Not saying you have to be young, or necessarily not rich, to have that hunger. But it is a different world moving from the NBA to college. Not the coach in college is harder, I don’t think that, but it is a different skill set and outlook.
The NIL college world might be a little different, but we’ll see.
I keep waiting on the exception to this rule. This may be true generally about the type of person who fits that profile, but I don't think you can automatically write him off specifically as not having enough hunger before day 1.
