Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

Capacity is listed at 3,823 - I can’t decide if it looks bigger or smaller than that on TV. I haven’t been since we bought it and renovated and my memories from Warthogs games are only from Thirsty Thursdays with $1 drafts, so that’s to say I don’t remember much of anything.
Miss you! Need to come back to the dash to visit!

Will actually be in Winston this week and am very disappointed the administration didn’t schedule board and council meetings during a week we had a home series! I’ll be back if we host a regional for sure!

These scores are ridiculous. Awesome to see the team not only live up to but exceed high preseason expectations so far. Keep it rolling, host a Regional and Super, and let the chips fall where they may.

Big 3 being Brock, Nick and ??? - Cecere obviously makes the most sense, but since he was out for the series, he clearly didn’t have a hit. Brock had a hit yesterday; Kurtz went 0 for yesterday and today.
I listed Reinisch because he was a good HR hitter last year and drew a lot of walks. He seems to be striking out more right now.

Definitely making a trip to Tallahassee in the middle of May to see this team. Tempted to get out of work at about 2 pm on Friday and do two nights to see Lowder take the bump on Friday night.

I unfortunately have to be in Filthadelphia for a family wedding on the weekends regionals would happen...but I'm not one to consider finding a way out of that to go to Winston if we're hosting. After all, I've seen this cousin twice in 20 years. Meanwhile, I didn't miss a Wake home game Sophomore-Senior years at The Hooks (and was on the field for every home game Junior and Senior years). Wake baseball might be a little more of a priority in my life here.

Great game, great series. BA has fallen for our big hitters (Reinisch, Kurtz, Wilken....)in ACC games but the pitching, both starters and relievers, was exceptional. And the freshmen and transfers along with Bennett, are taking up the slack in hitting. Keep improving and doing the little and diverse elements besides HRs, and Omaha is a definite possibility for the Deacs. I don't think our "Big 3" had a hit in either 4-1 win, but if they see that some of our other guys can get some HRs, maybe that will take some pressure off them, and they can just try to put the ball in play.

My head is going to explode

These are the college teams that have a team ERA within 0.50 of us right now.

Based on high-level stats and performance to date, UVA looks really strong. Will be interesting to watch them this season. Kind of too bad we don’t play then in the regular season.

I spent a few minutes looking for a good site with left/right splits. Looks like a current site does not exist since collegesplits.com hasn’t updated in 10+ years.

On paper our remaining acc schedule is actually pretty weak. We don't play carolina virginia or georgia tech this year

Still very curious why the ACC still has divisions in baseball and soccer. Do we need to play BC every year in baseball? Does Notre Dame enjoy being in the Atlantic for baseball and the Coastal for soccer?

Pitching carries the best teams in the postseason. I like the way our staff is coming together. We have a chance.
Ol' Miss had a 4.70 team ERA last season. And had only one pitcher with a sub 3.00 ERA. So Pitching carrying best teams in the postseason is not particularly accurate.

They also finished 12 out of 14 teams in the SEC in BA.
Tennessee led the SEC in ERA and Batting Average.

Getting hot at the right time is what carries teams in the postseason....nothing else

Nothing else? Feel like if you looked at all the CWS participants of say the past 10 years you could probably find more correlations than “got hot at the right time”

Yes, I think the regional as a crapshoot is pushing it too far. 11 of 16 regional hosts advanced last year. The losers were seeded overall 16, 15, 13, 7, and 6.

In 2021 11 of 15 regional hosts advanced. The losers were seeded 16, 15, 14, and 6. I left out 11 seed ODU because they did not get to host.

If you are hosting, especially as a single digit seed, you should expect to advance.

Miss St had a 4.04 Team ERA in 2021.
Really don't feel like digging that deep in to this.
It's a short tournament..being hot matters more than season performance. No sport is more subject to randmoness than baseball
