WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

In the last two years, Forbes has had 9-man rotations that became 8-man rotations, but that was often due more to incompetency (Bradford and Whitt) than it seemed to be about wanting to whittle it down to 8. I think it's fair to assume we'll roll out a 9-man rotation again this year, as anything more than that is rare.

Barring injuries, one of the below guys has to come out for it to be a 9-man rotation. Jao, MMM, and the [Marsh/Keller] question seem to be the three that seem logical. I expect others (Friedrichsen especially) to play situationally especially early in the year and in comfortable games.

Guards: Boopie, Jao, Cam, Sallis
Wings: Bobi, Damari, MMM
Bigs: Transfer, Carr, [Keller/Marsh]

3M isn’t a wing. Much more of a PF who is going to spell Carr at times when necessary.

Cam and Sallis will definitely see time together…Cam backing down to the FT line will open up the guards for outside shots. It is a staple in the offense and Sallis will get his shots.

Really liking the direction of the roster so far. If we can bring Bobi back, get Monsanto healthy, and maybe get a rim protector, we should be challenging for a top four spot in the league.
This is where I am. I’m also thinking Keller will play a much larger role this year. We still badly need another big man on the roster.

Time to focus on big man targets…anyone with insight?

It’s gotta be a big, it’s just gotta!
Since nobody asked, here's where I fall on the whole big man situation. As the saying goes, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and expecting a different result. Last year, we played two not mobile, bad defensive big men and became one of the worst defensive teams in major college basketball. If we roll out there again with Marsh as our best answer at the 5, we'll have another bad year defensively. We all certainly hope Keller advances in weight and confidence and develops into a solid defender, and we all certainly hope Marsh becomes more laterally agile and develops defensive instincts, but that's just hope. In a year I believe will put a real stamp on Forbes' tenure, I can't imagine he wants such a major unknown. If at all possible, we will and need to add a rim protector. If we don't, I think we see a whole lot of Carr at the 5, which ultimately may be fine, but is still a risk.

You do not need a giant playing the 5 in college bball. Plenty of teams have had success playing with a combo of guards and wings/forwards.

Their literal height doesn't matter, but you need to have a good defensive anchor as your "big". Norchad Omier is shorter than Bobi but one of them can be a defensive anchor and it's not Bobi.

Lots of cool background on Hunter and his family in this article:

Seems like a hell of a kid.

I'm amazed you're a subscriber to the spokesman gazette.

MAC POY. He's legit. Started at Boise. Everyone with an open scholly will be on him.
