all hitters are guess hitters. wilken didn’t just choose to take a fastball down the plate, he was obviously looking for a slider based on the scouting report.

That’s not true. Many hitters can read the pitch type coming out of the pitchers hand, that’s why tunneling is so important. This entire CWS the commentators have been talking about how the shadows make it really difficult for the hitters to see the spin on the ball.
