Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

Yeah I thought Rhett had another inning in him. As it turned out overall it didn’t matter given when the game ended. But Rhett and Paul. Whewww what a game.

I will say (same thing I said a few minutes ago) that the Cam comments were clipped out of context pretty good. Obviously he said that but the question was how it felt playing on a team who had this much fun and the full 40 second answer contexualized that seeing the guys out there having a blast while he was warming up and listening to music made him say as he came onto the field how can we lose having this much fun. It’s impossible

It was a rhetorical question dumbass. The point being that LSU and Wake were CLEARLY the best two teams the entire college season.
Hard to say LSU was CLEARLY the best even in their own league when they slumped, dumbass and finished 19-10 and in 2nd place in the SEC West to Arkansas.

Has there been any further clarification or information on the decision not to play Kurtz? Was it Walter’s call? Kurtz’s? I know that Les reported he was good to go after the Supers, but clearly he was a different guy in Omaha.

Looked like he was struggling to swing the bat physically pre game and Walter made the call

Almost fitting that in the 11th inning, two of the lead stories on the ESPN scroll are LSU having to forfeit 37 football wins and its former basketball coach being slapped with a show cause order.
Yet they tasted success. Just sayin - what Wade did is normal now. Small consolation. But being an LSU fan >>>>>>> Being a Wake fan. And I’ve been diehard since I drew my first breath.

Being a Wake grad >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LSU grad. But we aren’t discussing US news rankings

I heard from a 70’s former Deac baseballer that the pitch Kurtz took to the ribs against Bama was a pretty significant injury. Unclear if it was broken/cracked but explains a lot.

It’s called a tournament with brackets and seedlings. Did you not watch March Madness where nary a #1 made it to the Final Four and the highest seed in the Elite 8 was a 2 seed Texas. Geez, we watched FAU & San Diego State thrill the country and 4 seed UConn kick everybody’s ass for 3 weeks.

What’s a “seedling”?

Are there advanced stats on college baseball? Based on BABIP alone I bet our expected run total (prior to the last inning) would have been like 3.4-0.8. We really should have won that game but baseball is hard.

all 3 of our outs in the 10th were 100+ MPH exit velocity:

2 of our 3 outs in the 9th had 100+ MPH exit velocity - the other was 98:

Lowder at a minimum held his own against Skenes:

Creighton did not tweet out similar exit velocity summaries for LSU innings (Crews' line drive was 104 MPH and White's HR was 106), but it sure felt like they didn't hit the ball as hard at least until the 11th

Last game we hit a lot of cans of corn. This game we hit more liners right in somebody's pocket.

Maybe we are cursed. I know that I am, but I hoped it wouldn't transfer.

Yeah - it looked all CWS like he was trying to swing as few times as possible - and now we know why...

These two top 10 draft picks, while having quite different styles, certainly delivered an epic of a game. Many one of all-five best (or better) as neither blinked and both came out unscathed. This was worthy of anyone’s national TV audience from start to finish and I hope every casual baseball fan tagged along for the ride as you won’t ever find one with so much meaning to a postseason riding on it.
Prolific results were produced by both pitchers all game long!

lsu had a bad couple weeks mid season that dropped them a little in the polls and had them at the 5 seed.

Agreed wake and lsu were the best two teams all year if you discount the three weeks South Carolina got super hot and their fans acted like they were the greatest team to ever play the sport
Jokes on you, the Darla Moore Cocks get to claim another (proxy) national title no matter who wins this weekend! They can't lose (except that they pretty much always do and have to claim other teams' success as their own) :ROFLMAO:
