Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

Well. I'm sad but not shocked. Been a Deac fan too long to get my hopes up.

Fuck ESPN and their SEC slobber fest. Lowder was the more efficient pitcher last night but all the announcers could do was gobble LSU and Skenes cock.

Tom Walter last night

“Wake Forest will be back in this game again, and I know it won't be with all these guys on this team because we've got several guys that will be high draft picks, but we've got a couple of seniors too. I'm sorry they won't be back in this game, but I know Wake Forest will be.”

Really hard to get over the sting of ole tommy tanks this morning. My god Rhett is a beast, he went toe to toe with pitching jesus. Pitchers and defense really were top notch, showed why we were #1.

Hard not to be absolutely gutted by the lack of offense though. I don't know the answer, whether we were just seeing a level of pitching we weren't used to, or if our park really does juice our numbers (by proxy making the pitching that much more impressive). We didn't really even get that many to the track though so I'm thinking we were just tight and facing a level we couldn't get used to. Who knows. Great season, hope Walters can keep the momentum going. It's hard getting there once, but it's a hell of a lot harder to get back again.

When do baseball schedules get released. I’d like to plan a weekend next year to go. Not necessarily in Winston.
If you've got a connection within the team/athletic department, they pretty much already know their conference schedules for next year (though TV could move some Fri-Sun series to Thurs-Sat later on). Otherwise, the official schedules usually get released in the October-early December time frame.

probably a little both...and bats go cold at times, and this was just a lousy time.

I wasn’t regularly on this thread during the game while at a bar with Deacs. Was the infield condition discussed? There is zero chance a well executed bunt should bounce 10 feet in the air like that. The LSU guy made an amazing play, but regardless, on MLB infields, I think that exact same bunt would have scored the run 95/100 times.

Hell, the game before LSU had a routine hard ground ball bounce over 6’5” Kurtz’s head. Also should never happen.

The CWS being in Omaha is a cool tradition, the outfield grass looks amazing, and the fan experience fantastic, but the field dimensions, infield condition, and field alignment with wind/sun leave a ton to be desired.

You have to start it next year. I started it during too many seasons where we didn’t live up to expectations. This is your #1 job now.

NEXT SEASON the team deserves more than one megathread (even ignoring the negative LK vibes)

one for the offseason
one for non-conf
one for each week of the conference season
one for ncaa speculation
one for regional
one for super regional
one for each cws game
one to celebrate our deacon champs

i’ve spent so much time consuming college baseball content lately, need some time to do figure out what to listen to in the morning now

You want to try to split the pitcher and 1st baseman there so that neither have their momentum coming straight home.

I don’t know man. I think I might agree, but the game threads devolve into absolute trash. Just miserable to be around.

It would be tons of fun to organize a road trip and bring a large group to a random game.
I've done trips like this with the 7 Line Army for Mets games and they're way up there in the best sports experiences I've had.

Getting everyone in the same block of seats might be a little trickier for college ball, but depending on the school they might be thrilled by a large group committing to the seats.

it went right to Morgan, he made an amazing play on the ball and JJ was still just BARELY out. It was SO close.

Gonna be thinking about that play and the Danny Corona warning track ball for a while. Just inches away from keeping it from extra innings.
