Northwestern Athletics Scandals

Northwestern? More like

250px-Worst_Western.png

There is a large call in the media for Northwestern to shut down their athletics program. I'm torn on this one. Fall Sports are basically started, no kid will be able to find a roster spot at another school. Are you punishing too many people who had nothing to do with this by shutting it down? Outside of that it seems like they need to shut it down.

I don't like the idea of all the inevitable stories come September of how football is helping to heal the university etc.

But also, some of those folks could presumably transfer to Wake, so....

It's unrealistic to think they will shut down the entire athletics program. But they need to be accountable and clean house starting yesterday.

1. Fire all coaches associated with hazing. Identify and suspend all players associated with hazing.
2. Conduct a thorough review of all other sports and clean house of coaches and players associated with misconduct.
3. Fire the AD and other athletics leadership
4. Investigate upper administration to see what they knew and when they knew it.
5. Petition the NCAA to allow any athletes from any sport to transfer without taking a year off or get an extra redshirt year.

That's a start right off the top of my head.

6. Require Northwestern to honor, through at least four years, all athletic grants to any student-athlete who chooses to stay in school to earn the NU degree but who no longer wishes to compete.

does the ACC have a board, or do the ADs/university presidents make the decision

Yes to this.

Didn't read the complaint, but I skimmed the cheerleading article. Don't want to minimize in any way the negative effects this had on aybody who felt victimized, but those allegations seem thin. If that holds up seems like every cheer squad in the country has a case.

Seriously. Just a ridiculous lawsuit

I really hate to ask this, but it's better than googling. What the fuck is 'running' in this context?
Meh. I googled.

It's weirder and worse than I imagined.

amazing that any of these people still have jobs. if I had shown this level of incompetence at work I would have been fired long ago

It would be incredibly refreshing to see a university deal with this sort of scandal in this way. From the message Windy included above, though, looks like NW is starting down the UNC path.

Just take responsibility and clean it up already. I realize they’re concerned about the liability but I have to think quick and decisive action would only help.
