Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

The assumption is they'll negotiate it down to one lump sum. I wouldn't do that if I'm the ACC. All or stay.
Yeah. I can't imagine why the ACC would allow them to negotiate it down. That would defeat the whole purpose of having the long term GOR agreement.

The only real option for Crab Leg U would be the Big 10. Why would ESPN want to pay them more to be in the SEC when they have them on the cheap right now in the ACC?
I think Clemson and FSU are a bigger draw for the big ten. Sec already has a footprint in Sc and fl and don’t need to add more schools. Sec is probably pining for UNc and possibly UVA.

That's what I'd be thinking as well with f$u to the big 19.

And clem's son to the sec if the GOR is somehow defeated.

Not sure I see Clemson going to SEC from an SEC financial standpoint. They don't add a new TV market and I don't see the existing members wanting to split the pie another way just to get Pickens County into the conference.

Maybe so, but clem's son sure does have the feel of an sec school.

I hate FSU as much as anybody but I really think y'all are nuts if you don't think the SEC is gonna jump on the chance to take FSU and Clemson when they jump ship from the ACC. I don't find the "where will FSU even go?!!?" hysteria persuasive at all.
Why would the SEC want them? They already have the Florida media market. And regardless of what FSU's leadership thinks, their "brand" isn't nearly as attractive or valuable as it was 10+ years ago.

Clemson is a little bit different. I don't think that the SEC needs them from a media market standpoint- they already have SC and Georgia covered. But their brand is far more valuable than it was 10 years ago. And from Clemson POV why would they want to have to compete against UGa and Bama every year to make the CFP when they can compete against PITT and UNC?

No way does UNC go to the SEC with that conference's robust academic requirements.

I mean I don't think the SEC "needs" anybody from a market perspective. And maybe that's the answer, they just aren't going to add anybody. But if FSU and Clemson announce they're going to leave the ACC and have their rights in tact, I don't see the SEC just saying "nah man we have Florida already so the Big 10 can just take these two teams who have won titles in the last decade"

May be totally off base though

Maybe you're right, maybe you're not. I would think the landscape will change again in a few years. But, for the B1G to pay a partial share to Oregon and Washington, who are now members of the league, and then turn around and pay more to FSU and Clemson, wouldn't go over well. They've already set a precedent of paying less than a full share.

The SEC could follow that precedent if they choose and pay FSU less. You'd have to think both schools would prefer to be in the SEC. So would the SEC be able to pay them even less than the B1G would ? Or would the threat of the B1G invading SEC recruiting grounds be enough to cause the SEC to offer a full share ?

I think there's a lot more to it than: Of course the B1G and SEC are going to be falling all over themselves to get both of these schools in the door.

Sankey has said that the sec is "good" at 16.

Guess we'll find out....

I agree with this. Even though Clemson and FSU seem to better fit the SEC profile, that is actually why they wouldn't want them. But they would bring something new to the BIG 10. Whereas with UNC and UVa, I think that they would be attractive to either league.

ESPN doesn't want to get sued.
Disney lawyers are probably licking their chops for another shot at FL blowhards.
I've said this before, but last year, a ESPN executive buddy of mine (still there) told me the two ACC schools the B1G and SEC were interested in were UNC and UVA. At that time, it sounded like they DGAF about Clemson/FSU.

UVA was/is puzzling. He also called the USC/UCLA stuff happening way before the rumors even started (and we all told him he was crazy).
NC and VA would be growth markets for the SEC. The SEC has a foothold in the 2nd and 3rd largest states, strengthening their foothold in the 2nd with TX. After that, they only have one of the top 14 states (GA 8th) and three of the top 22 (TN 15th, MO 18th). NC and VA are the 9th and 12th largest states.

By comparison, the Big Ten added the largest state and they have the 5-7 in PA, IL, and OH and 10 and 11 in MI and NJ.

FSU is hardly the only party that might wind up feeling they've been wronged by one of the networks.

does Miami actually move the needle? seems like their fanbase is super meh. I know they have a terrible stadium situation, but just don't see how they could be a draw other than the inevitable "Da U is back !!!" narrative every couple of years.
