Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Seems like Cal, Stanford, SMU are a topic of discussion on an ACC presidents call today. We should find out pretty soon if this has any legs at all. Reduced share expected for each of the three so as to not cut into any revenue for current teams

Sankey ready to alter the CFP format now that the PAC-12 is blown up.

"How many FBS conferences will exist in 30 to 60 days ?"

I don't think the document been made public but it would be outright shocking if both the Big 12 and said teams announced they were going without signing a contract first. That would be utter malpractice.
then how do you know its as unbreakable as the ACC's GOR?

Ah I thought you meant ASU/UA signing on

It's already been made a fact that the ACC quite literally took the Big 12s GOR and used it to create their own because of how iron clad they are. They are pretty much the same document.

It's why UT/OU still had to pay exit fees and leave later than they wanted to because there was no way around it.

Jim Phillips has been all defense, he is finally playing offense with Stanford Cal SMU talks. Probably too late but it is better than doing nothing. ACC looking at B1G bringing in Rutgers #1 NY market as a comp. I don’t pretend to know any of the numbers but SMU makes the most sense because of #5 Dallas TV market and them likely taking a significantly reduced revenue share. Stanford Cal bring #2 LA and #6 San Fran but they can negotiate with ACC for a much bigger share than SMU. Maybe us landing Stanford Cal SMU is the first step to offer ND the 18th spot, or (once ND says no) to pivot and poach Big 12 guys like TCU Baylor Houston.

Is Jimmy really on offense or just desperate getting table scraps???

Who cares? We need to put ourselves in a position where, if worse comes to worst and our biggest brands leave, we end up like the Big XII instead of the PAC 12. Adding mid-market schools while they're still there to add is the best, perhaps only, way to do that. Would you rather be Iowa State or Wazzu right now?

Phillips is a genius. If he can do this and add Tulane for free, we're back in business baby !!!!

This is how I feel.

If SMU wants to join the ACC for no $$$ for five years sign em up today IMO.

Unfortunately it seems like this is the correct strategy in the current landscape.

Of course, the other 4D chess strategy, if buying ESPN doesn't work, is to keep scooping up Memphis, Tulane, Oregon State, Wazzu, Army, Navy, UConn, Boise State, Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming, and 20 other schools for reduced shares until Congress finds that we've run afoul of antitrust statutes and declares some arbitrary cap on the number of schools any one conference can include.

I figure SMU and their history is a more natural fit for the SEC.

I'll take Free SMU.

Agree 100% that IF F$U finds a way out we don't end up in a 5 team conference. If you can't be the B1G or the SEC at least be the next best thing.
yeah would suck for everyone to leave except Wake and BC like with Oregon St and Wazzu.
