What are you listening to right now?

Checking out the Allman Brothers cover band Trouble No More tonight. They have two fantastic guitarists: Daniel Donato (who is blowing up lately) and Brandon Taz Niederauer who has been on the jam band scene since he was a kid. They also have Roosevelt Collier on pedal steel and Lamar Williams Jr on vocals (son of ABB bassist Lamar Williams).

I love the raw Last Waltz footage, warts and all, before Robbie went back and scrubbed it. I love the cinema version and the released concert album version, too, but this puts you there man, and you get more of a sense of the ramshackle nature of it. Chunks, missed changes, etc., but it's more real.

Oh wow. I've been following Donoto since he was a teenager playing with the Don Kelly Band at Robert's Western World in Nashville. That guitar slot is a tough one to get and he got it at like 16 I think. He can rip on a Tele. I'm envious you get to see those guys.

yeah they came last year and IDK why I didn't go. Allman Bros are my favorite band and they did all of Eat a Peach then. The initial announcement listed Chuck Leavell as a special guest tonight but nothing since so I'm doubting he shows up.

So, the show last night was incredible. I fucking love the Allman Brothers and it made me so happy to hear these songs again. Dickey Betts was a fucking genius with the instrumentals he wrote, and they played 3: Les Brers in A Minor, Jessica, and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.

The original announcement from the venue (you can see in the screenshot below) mentioned Chuck Leavell as a special guest. But since then I had heard nothing of it and was skeptical he would be there. But I had hope since one of the band members mentioned him in an IG story. But once they went into Jessica and he didn't come out I knew he wasn't there. Their pedal steel player wasn't there, either, and no word about his whereabouts.

We did, however, get a special treat with none other than Jason Isbell sitting in on the last two songs of the night (One Way Out & Whipping Post) since he's in town for a show of his own tonight. I was wearing a Drive-By Truckers shirt with his name on it (pure coincidence) and people were complimenting it all night, then one guy came up to me at set break and said he heard he was in the house. Then after the show as I was walking out several people were like "duuuude did you know??"

You can watch the full show here:

If you've never seen Once Were Brothers, watch it. It is absolutely fascinating and life-changing - for me anyway.
I've been holding off because I am generally kind of wary of Robbie's control over the legacy and I think he definitely did a couple of those guys pretty wrong when they were in bad spots (Levon and Richard mostly -- who put themselves in the bad spots, but still), but I still love him and think he's a genius and will watch -- just need to be in the right mindset. It's probably the right time, though.

New Beachwood Sparks album on the way, that doesn't happen often. Those are usually good times.

Cmon, what else do you need?

If ever a band sounded like the sunbaked children of a partnership between the trippy psychedelic dreamers of the paisley underground and the lonesome cowboys of the late-'60s Laurel Canyon cosmic country, Beachwood Sparks are it.

And a new Dismemberment Plan offshoot with bass player and drummer. This is also the 11th anniversary of the one time I saw D-Plan, in the back of some weird ass drum shop in Fredericksburg, VA.

You're concerns are legit but I know you'll love it. I mean, it's The Band.

I don’t think I’m gonna Hopscotch this year but got a three day pass at the early bird price.

If any of you guys are interested, let me know, I’d sell it for what I paid for it + taxes/fees or whatever, just so I’m zeroed out. Broke and saw that my guys Tonstarttbandht weren’t playing until 12:30 one night, and, shit that’s late — I’m not sure I can hang. I’m not even feeling like driving to Durham tonight for the Clientele since I have to be back out that way first thing tomorrow morning for work and I’m lazy and might just watch Sorcerer or something tonight. Middle age, huh.

Not desperate or anything, still might go and have fun, but if someone really wants to go, I’d hook you up just to break even. Word.

I know this thread is for a bunch of hipster/underground guys/gals/etc, but I will continue to post my ridiculous pop music lol

This song is apparently 3 years old, but it came up as YOU MAY LIKE on YouTube and at first I was going to skip it bc it sounded country and I wasn't in the mood for that.

ANYWAY....I listened to it, and literally like halfway thru I had tears in my eyes...it literally hit me in the soul....the voice...the lyrics...all of it.....to a song by a guy named Jelly Roll lol. So sad :(

But I really like it!:

"Save Me" - Jelly Roll

And I know I'm supposed to hate this racist dude, but these songs are goddamn catchy!

"Last Night" - Morgan Wallen

Picked up this Zeppelin bootleg recently (off Instagram, no less) and it sounds great. There seem to be so few good, live recordings of Zep so I'm really happy to have this in the collection.

Track listing is:

Side 1:
I can't quit you baby
I gotta move
Communication Breakdown
Dazed & Confused

Side 2:
Babe I'm gonna leave you
How Many More Times

It's Jimmy Webb's birthday today -- great songwriter, questions about an age-appropriate/legal relationship somewhere in there -- and Coach Forbes mentioned his love of "Wichita Lineman" a couple weeks ago on the twitter and I had to share this shreddy/poppy version with him, and Coach Forbes and fam need the vibes right now, so I'm sharing it again because the birthday reminded me and who can't use vibes even in the best of times.
