Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

I don’t know why ESPN would want to pay Clemson more to dilute games against current SEC teams rather than pay them less to play against current ACC teams.
Addendum for clarification.

The SEC doesn't want Clemson, but the SEC may want to either destroy or cripple the ACC so that they would get more CFP slots when it grows to 12.
Fair point. The CFP is already down to 5 auto bids. Destroying the ACC would make it 4 auto bids. 3 auto bids, 1 Big XII at-large, 5 SEC, 3 Big Ten seems likely.

And I love Neuheisel on the air, and remember him from his playing days at UCLA losing in Athens, but he's not a Tier 1 Source.

ACC:
Why do you need to wreck this conference?

SEC:
Because it's wreckable, all right?

Do we know for certain that the SEC even wants any of these schools? I mean I'd think Clemson is a pretty solid get and draw but it doesn't necessarily add anything shorter term that they don't already have.

Not sure how this is measured, but Clemson and FSU are each among the top 25 programs in terms of "value" per Fox. I imagine part of that equation is about how many eyeballs the program can generate for the games they play. If so, they'd presumably like to add those two programs. If those two were added the SEC would have 13 of those 25 programs. And the value of those programs would likely be enhanced.

I’d even hold the door open for Clemson to leave as long as the check cashes
And if the Clemson media rights are so valuable, that check better have 10 gigits on it left of decimal point.

Yep. Pay the exit fee, give up your media rights until 2036 and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
So what would the exit fee be? Bc the SEC TV deal will likely pay $50M a year more starting in a couple of years and runs through 2034. Slap a discount rate on those cash flows and you’ll have your answer on whether they’d pay that fee.

Maybe I misunderstand, but why would Clemson get any SEC TV money if the SEC isn't getting any of Clemson's media rights (which the ACC holds)? Or are you saying Clemson is going to somehow reach an agreement to buy out their entire grant of rights from the ACC and pay like $555 million this year to do so?
