2023-2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Thread

Anyone else irrationally hate Butler forever?
No. I took an oath to root for Butler because of this.

This is the most heartbreaking non-Wake college sports loss I've ever experienced. My friends and I couldn't talk for about an hour after this game. Butler was an unknown mid-major and almost had an amazing upset. They turned out alright though.

Seems like the appropriate court then, site of many other sports heartbreaks for you I’m sure.

Side note, I miss how the NCAA no longer uses the courts of the host schools and has the same generic ones everywhere. They’ll play the highlight in the video here every year and you’ll always get to see it happening on our court.

Not really. I'm a mid-to-late 90s Deac who has been to one home game in the last 20 seasons.

Great games tonight:

UConn at Kansas - one of the best scheduled games of the year. As Pilchard mentioned, UConn has won 24 straight games against non-conference opponents by double digits. Kansas does not lose at home much at all

Houston at Xavier - maybe a little lost steam after Xavier lost to Oakland earlier this week, but Xavier is generally a tough out at home. Houston is a very difficult team to play against especially against the defense.

Purdue at Northwestern - sneaky good potential, Northwestern at home against the top ranked Boilermakers. Line is 5.5 which seems like your classic "Vegas knows something we don't."

Well, I'm on Siena (+3.5) against Rider. Is #258 v. #356 not a great game? Siena's best player Michael Eley has been out; he just returned last game, and should be 100% now. Siena is awful, but they aren't #356 awful, and with Eley back and at home, Siena has a solid shot to beat a less than mediocre team at home.

Amazing how efficient the betting markets are now. A decade ago, Oregon would never by a 10 point favorite over unbeaten Washington in the Pac-12 Championship, and the heavy action in the Houston/Xavier game would never be on the unranked Xavier team that just lost to Oakland. Same with the Purdue/NW line; all of the action would've been on #1 Purdue and the line would've been close to double digits. It's gotten to the point, that the dopey sides which would have been square plays now have value.

Hell of a game in Allen Fieldhouse tonight, Tristan Newton went off. Don't know how we pulled it out but we did.

These Duke coaches really panned out like Kelsey and Miller.

Obviously, we missed our window to hire any of them. I wonder who the next crop of Coaches are that we would have a chance at. I think it's been proven we can't wait until they are on other folks radar and find success. They have little interest in us then.

I guess Justin Gray is our likely next Coach. Justin loves Wake so he fits the mold as someone who might stick around. I also really like Kevin Giltner at Virginia Tech.

What do you young folks see out there as others who are young and hungry and are obvious to be successful D1 coaches one day. Those of us actually paying attention knew that would be the case for Capel, Miller, and Kelsey. Who is the next crop?

#210 HPU is at #290 North Florida today. HPU looked sloppy the other night against Morgan St.

That was a great game. Uconn's struggles at the line and Kansas' lights out shooting from 3 made the difference. Looking forward to Stephon Castle getting back into the team before Big East season starts.

Absolute blast to watch. Both teams, clearly, national title contenders and it was great to see an early season tilt between the two especially with the home court rather than neutral site.

So you’re a UConn Husky. Odd that if you were a Washington Husky your night would have gone so much better.

Really weird shooting performance, honestly. Started 4-4, missed everything for 25 minutes, made 4 late. Loved having it in AFH, hopefully the conferences do the right thing and send us to Storrs next year.
