Official 2023-24 NBA Season Thread - Thunder/Mavs Game 6

Is Haliburton the best non-Curry PG in the NBA

Is Haliburton the best non-Curry PG in the NBA
Yes. And Sabonis is probably the best non-Jokic or Embiid C in the NBA. The rare blockbuster trade that worked.

How is that Haliburton's first triple-double? That's nuts.

I feel like if NBA media had to pick a team to win the IST, they'd have picked Pacers. There was a lot of talk about a young talented team without playoff experience benefitting from the IST. Kings vs. Pacers would be fantastic.

guys, Halliburton is not the second best PG in the league come on
Depends on if you consider Luka a PG or not. I assume Kory didn't because Luka would probably be ahead of Steph. After that, it's real close between a lot of dudes and Haliburton has as good a case as any. He averages over an assist higher than #2 (Trae) and 2.7 more assists than the #3 PG (FVV). His percentages are great. And he's elevating a young team.

Nah, that's gotta be Bam Bam.

It's weird in that I'm not sure the Kings do that trade again knowing what they know now about Hali, but if they don't do the trade, I'm not sure Fox's trade value rebounds enough with Hali on the team too to find a worthwhile trade for Fox. Kind of a catch-22 situation (I think I'm using that term correctly?).

But would they do it knowing Sabonis led them to the #3 seed last season?

Pretty sure Haliburton was mocked higher than he was taken. The Kings didn't draft for need and made it work.

Can’t see Huerter without thinking about that “Martin had a dream!” tweet.

But we all saw what happened in the playoffs last year. I don't think Sabonis is a 1 or 2 on a true #contender, and he doesn't really provide much defensively. Hali is definitely at least a 2, possibly a 1, and is 4 years younger.

But at the same time, Fox is like a 2nd or 3rd team All-NBA guy right now and works really well with Sabonis. At least in the regular season. But Hali's ceiling feels higher for playoff runs.

If I sound like I'm talking in circles, well yes, I am. Continues to be an interesting trade.

It’s a good discussion. I’d rather have a #3 PG than #3 C in today’s NBA. I also think the very experienced Warriors were a rough matchup for a Kings team in their first playoff. Even the greatest players have struggled in those situations.

Buddy Hield being a part of that trade really tips it for the Pacers
Yeah. But the Kings may still make the trade in hindsight because they basically replaced Hield in the Huerter trade.

I did not know Trajan Langdon was the Pelicans’ GM.
