Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

God bless Currie and the mountain he has to climb but I chuckle at this stat every time. I'm embarrassed to even ask him where he got this stat as I know he knows that we all know he's trying keep us above water.
At least he’s out there selling us. It’s the type of behavior we’ve needed but haven’t gotten from Philips in terms of evangelizing the conference.

Also, can you imagine what Wellman would be saying in this situation, what his “From the Quad” message would’ve said? Oh wait, I was hallucinating for a minute…

IANAL, but I don't understand how one party (ESPN) potentially acting within the terms of a contract provides some magic loophole for another party (FSU) to weasel its way out of said contract

That stat plus the statement they make over & over that we had 3 or 4 sellouts. It was easy for all to see at the Elon & Vandy games that there were not nearly 20,000 people in the stands. Why brag about sellouts when the visiting side seats are shining in the sun from emptiness?

I don’t see UNC ever leaving the ACC. They are the top dog and would not have nearly the influence in any other league that they have in the ACC. Plus I don’t think they would be allowed to leave without NCSU and wouldn’t want to leave Duke

People thought the same thing early on about Wash/Wash St, Ore/Ore St & OK/Ok St and we see they are all split up. Plus the Cali legislature looked down their nose at UCLA leaving Cal in the lurch but it didn’t stop that one either.

reporter: Hey Ron Wellman- do you think that Florida State is happy in the ACC?
Ron Wellman: Heavens Yes!

You really don’t know why?

Don’t remember what specifically but Cal got some concessions from UCLA from the legislature

Definitely need to beat them like any other team, but I sort of laugh at this because it’s not like the players have anything to do with the administration’s stance on leaving the conference. Especially the baseball players. And the administration doesn’t hear those boos in Tallahassee (or care).

(They might act cocky just from their status as FSU baseball players and that alone would be the reason to jeer them.)

Wake will never, ever legitimately compete for a national championship in football; maybe slide in the 12-team playoff once every 10-20 years but no way we win 3-4 playoff games in a row against teams with all their 4-5 star recruits and NIL transfers. I'm ready for the whole thing to go ahead and blow up, in which case we either hang in somehow to compete at a moderately-successful (hopefully/optimistically) level as a "power" member, or if not, we compete in a totally separate G5-type division with a legit chance at a national championship.

This seems to be where things are.

The PAC12 broke up at a time when there was no grant of rights in place and the league was unable to negotiate a TV contract after years of trying.

Texas and Oklahoma paid $50 million each to leave the Big12 one year before the Big12 GOR expired. Those two schools had leverage because they could refuse to sign a new GOR.

F$U isn't in either situation. ACC GOR runs to June 2036. That is through 12 more football seasons. They wanted long term stability after Maryland's departure from the ACC. If F$U wants out, there is no reason to give them a discount.
