Mako where are you going to see Iron Claw tonight? I was entertaining A/perture's 9:30 showing but the shitty weather coming through (?) and the late start time have me thinking maybe not.
We were shooting for the grand at 745 but our class may make that rushed so we may push to tomorrow. We would never make it through a 930 showing

I really didn't realize you people were more interested in building libraries, of questionable utility, than helping homeless people. Noted.

I enjoyed Broken Horses because I like Brandi Carlile. She's not the best writer (and she's open about her lack of education), but the stories were great and I learned a lot about her career. She's a very endearing performer (in my opinion) and this added to that lore. If you don't like her music, it's probably not an interesting read. Warlock was a grind for me - I liked the story (very Tombstone-y), but the pacing was tough for me at times. I read it because it was recommended in the book thread.

To your second point, (1) great joke and (2) this isn't a re-read - I've never read Harry Potter before so I'm experiencing the magic for the first time. We're about halfway through book 7 now and I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire series.

I picked his book out of the book thread - probably at your recommendation.

My 8 yo could read them herself, but it would be a bit much for the 6.5 yo right now. It's a part of the bedtime routine we all enjoy. Not sure what we're going to read at night once we wrap up book 7!
of your list have read the following in the last two years

Crying in H Mart - Michelle Zauner
All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr
The Only Good Indians - Stephen Graham
The Swimmers - Julie Otsuka
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow - Gabrielle Zevin

Crying in H Mart just missed by top-10 nonfiction list on the Pit Book Discussion Thread, but probably should separate memoir from NF.

How did you like The Swimmers? It was not the book I thought it would be going in and hit me hard in the feels as I've been dealing with my mom's decline/Alzheimer's the past two years.

I used to think the library was for poors until I 1) had kids and 2) started reading more often.

My wife and I have filled our bookshelves with shitty paperbacks that we basically just give to people that come by the house.

"Oh, you wanted to read this? Please take it. And take 2-3 more while you're at it!"

It's a waste of money.
yep - haven't bought a fiction book in 3 years now between the physical library and Libby (especially since late fees have been waived).

First, I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

I liked it a lot and same as you, it was different than I thought it would be. I found it to be an interesting look at the relationship between mothers and daughters - also caught a lot of feelings as Memory Loss / Dementia / Alzheimers has become one of those things I find really frightening. On that topic, Amy Bloom wrote a book about her partner's wish to die after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers. It apparently chronicals the onset, diagnosis, and their subsequent trip to Zurich for assisted suicide that I'd like to read.

Yo Timmy, just saw your post about Christopher Moore books from the other CT (first time online today). Lamb is one of my absolute favorite books by anyone. Just finished reading the Death Merchant books again and will start the vampire ones soon. I haven't cared for his most recent books Noir and Razzmatazz.

Man, that bagel was transcendant

Libraries with playgrounds?? Bet the homeless just sleep in the slides like the drunk in the first ep of parks & rec! Disgusting

Speaking of which, Telluride great library for kids, tons of stuff for them to do there, including a treehouse. Nice study rooms too, I was able to show my wife where I studied for the LSATs and did law school applications.
