2024 Wake Women's Basketball Offseason - Grad transfer SMU PG Tamia Jones

Down 9 at the half. Only scored 21 points. Winnable game but we probably won’t. Syracuse is fringe top 25

It's a talent and size issue.

Tough opponent for Kids' Day. The crowd seems hype anytime it gets within 10.

Elise has some really nice plays. What could have been with Spear, Williams, Kitley and Cayla King

Williams is the only baller on the team.

Spear seems to be doing alright at Tennessee, but not All-SEC level. She's averaging 11.4 ppg. Slightly worse percentages on less volume. But this team with her, Summiel, Hinds, and Becker was a solid 17-17. Spear was very good for us but the rest are solid ACC level rotation players. Gebbia doesn't need top 20 talents, just more women who can ball. Gotta think those types of players are in the portal.

I know they are going after some kids from the Ivy League, as they can already be in the portal. I think the talent will get better just not sure it will happen quickly.

They won't go winless. They probably won't be favored, but they'll probably beat one or two other bad teams at home and pull of a home upset of a middle of the pack team.
Still sticking with this, but I should have looked at the standings because there aren't many chances. There's no real "middle of the pack" mediocre teams. There are some very good teams, good teams, and bad teams. ESPN's bracketology has 9 teams in the field. GT isn't in their field (#55 NET).

Pitt, UVa, and Clemson are the other ACC teams .500 or below. BC is 9-7. They play at BC next Thursday. UVa and Clemson are at home next month.

2 wins and an ACCT upset seems about right.

Pitt seems like WF's best bet for an ACC win. Not sure how much home court matters, but WF plays Pitt once at Pitt. UVA is the other winless team in the ACC to date, but they have been far more competitive than either WF or Pitt as UVA has a tight losses to several good teams including a three point loss to defending champ LSU. WF doesn't play Pitt until the ending part of the season (Feb. 22); hope it does not come down to that.

At #15 Louisville on ACCN at 2

Big Deeble banked three at the buzzer. Gebbia's teams generally have competitive stretches against good teams which gives me hope for the program long-term.

They weren't joking about Louisville being great in the 2nd quarter and holding teams to single-digits. It's 46-25 with 35 sec left in the 2Q.

Gebbia needs to figure out recruiting. Fast. I'm not sure how she squandered a 17-17 1st season. Lost two transfers. Brought in no transfers. It will be much more challenging to recruit after a single-digit win season.

Next season could be worse. I hope Williams and Hinds return for a 5th year, but there are no guarantees. I think she only has one commit for next season, that tiny guard from Norway.

Unrelated, MMM's little sister was selected to participate in the NBA Academy Women's Global Program.

The program hosts 50+ girls age 14-16 from 32 countries outside the US.

6-4 SF/PF, c/o '27. Get it together, Coach.

^ Totally agree - she’s gotta figure out Jimmys and Joes real quick. It shouldn’t be THAT hard to recruit to Wake. We’re in the ACC. The facilities are amazeballs. Excellent academics. Lots of PT to sell. are we better than any D1 program in the state at the moment?

I wonder if we made the right move firing Hoover. This has been an unmitigated disaster so far. Gebbia’s clearly on her X’s and O’s but everything else is beyond bad.
