I love my wife (seriously).

For anniversary I take us to the Caribbean. For her birthday I’m taking her to a Kimpton Cardinal suite and dinner at The Katharine.

She just informed me she bought some shoes and a dress yesterday to wear to dinner tomorrow.

Fancy stuff, she says!

Cost…9 bucks total…from Goodwill.

Speaking of dinosaurs I just walked past a shitton of them in the Hanes Mall parking lot
Speaking of dinosaurs...
two years ago our Yellowstone/Grand Teton trip included a stop in Thermopolis. Hit the Dinosaur Center and spent a day digging for fossils in the mountain dig site nearby. Kids got their names in the book next to the tagged bones they found.

This makes my chicken nuggets and Valentine’s Day card look shitty.

ALSO - great topic, DF09. What are some of the simple things people have splurged on for no other reason that the simple joy it brings?
We really try to keep consumerism down, but tend to probably spend more than the average for things when we do actually buy them. I also love a good deal, especially with kids clothes. I want them to have nice stuff because they'll use it hard, but I am sure not into paying full price for the brands I'm drawn to. I get GREAT satisfaction when my kids are the last ones to still be outside because they're still dry and warm.

Microplane shredder/zester. Brings me so much pleasure.

Microplane has a great story. They started as a printer part manufacturer for dot matrix printers. When those started going the way of the dodo they needed to pivot and realized their employees were constantly cutting themselves on the components they made so they started making woodworking tools. Eventually some guy’s wife started using one of his tools in the kitchen.

See, this is the thing - we'll spend money on a lot of things most folks would say is dumb (mostly bikes/gear)... but then yeah, we don't go out for fancy things. Our best dates are taking the day off work, riding or hiking, and then going to get a beer or just having a beer at home. We are not fancy or expensive, generally. Nugs and a card sounds like a great valentines day.
