2024 Presidential Primaries and Election

Haley’s latest attack path is way too soft; last ditch. While Trump’s gaffe with Pelosi is super attack worthy, she should have joined Christie burying his ass from the beginning. I know a lot of my Pub friends who support any Pub but Trump would like to see her say she wouldn’t under any circumstances take his VP spot. Not doing so has reinforced their belief that she is not the attack dog they would like to see to beat Trump let alone Biden.

Pure saving face to not be embarrassed in NH

He was going to lose badly in NH regardless. He didn't compete there. His plan was to compete in SC, maybe finish 2nd, and ride it out in case external factors knocked out Trump. But he's out of money and I'm sure Trump told him to drop out and endorse before NH so Trump can say he won a two-person race.

I think more he thinks he has a future if he can say he was 2nd to Trump in Iowa. Harder to claim being the heir apparent when notching a 5% in NH well behind Haley

Agreed and it’s the “external factors” facing Trump that will keep Haley in the race till she has absolutely no shot left, even if she loses her home State.

No way. The money won’t be there for Haley if she loses NH unless she’s reasonably close enough to claim momentum.

She is so so so so cynical. She'll never say no, because she'd rather be veep than nothing.

What a strange quote to chose to end your campaign.

I've heard some interviews/focus groups with likely Haley voters who don't like that she refuses to say if she'll be Trump's VP.

I think Haley drops out if she loses in NH. Pundits talk a lot of shit about DeSantis only polling around 5-7%, but if most of them show up for Trump or don't show up at all instead of voting for Haley, Trump clears 50% easily.

Its too bad Meatball didn't have a bad showing in Iowa, because he wounded Nikki substantially by taking the silver, even though Meatball had no path to the nomination. Nikki had very little path as it was, but it got even tighter.
I'm not sure how much it hurt her, tbh. I get that it would be true in most other campaigns, I'm just not sure how many of Ron's supporters would have gone to Haley. It seems more likely that Trump's win would have just been even larger.

For the same reason, I don't understand why Haley's campaign was in such a rush to get Ron out. It may not have much impact in New Hampshire, but she's gonna get smoked in SC.

I guess but my reaction is the same as Iowa; who gives a f about SC. Sure. It’s her home state but it’s red neck ville. Hell we can’t even on line gamble here. I get the money thing but with the right $$ support I’d like to see how she would do in a bit more of a “balanced” state. And no, I like Haley’s grit but I wouldn’t vote for her.

These are all fair points. Her path was extremely narrow, and maybe non-existent. The only hope she had was a surprisingly strong second place in Iowa with Ron in the rearview. Given the issues you noted though, that was always going to be a challenge to pick up Ron's votes, but it was going to be virtually impossible with him still in it.

I do not think she will do well in NH on Tuesday, fwiw.

Agree with all this. She got a mini bump thru the debates but that brief glow has faded and I think the whole thing ends this week. She doesn’t want to get embarrassed in SC for same reasons Ronnie dropped out.

And him mis-quoting Churchill is a hall of fame chef’s kiss

VP Stefanik would be amazing. She’s so hateable. She would repel suburban women.
You're right about Stefanik, but I'm not sure that Haley at this point would be much better. She just said today on Face the Nation that she supports a national abortion ban and as POTUS would sign such a ban into law. Good luck selling that to women voters outside of Trump's cult base.

I’ve seen polling and analysis that shows Haley’s best chance at NH is taking advantage of their unique mix of high independent voters and open primaries that would allow Biden-skeptical Dems to vote for her. It wouldn’t help with the broader electorate but it’s her only chance at a win.

I don’t think even Trump has come out for a national ban. I think he’ll probably try to tamp down that talk enough though he’d certainly sign it.
