MBB Game 19: @ UNC - Monday 7pm - ESPN

I'm not sure this team really deserves an NCAA berth and that's okay. We'll see how the rest of the year plays out but they got run off the floor tonight. Let's face it, we're not consistent and just can't beat good teams on the road, ever. Forbes is still building, emphasis on "build." Fan base was way too bullish on our chances in this one.
This is mostly correct but I kind of disagree with the assessment of our potential coming in. We didn't even play well in the first half and had the lead. We just imploded in the second half. We showed we had the talent to compete - we just don't have the coaching plus the intestinal fortitude...

even when guys beat their primary defender off the dribble, carolina very good at protecting around the rim

Deacs don't do help D like that

yes, but also from a personnel standpoint the biggest gap on this squad is lack of playmaking. nobody on the team naturally sees the floor well and don’t really create well for others.

so basically we try to run complicated sets but if those don’t result in an open shot, it’s guys trying to score 1:1 in a good matchup, which is fine, but there’s not much crisp passing that gets the defense off guard. which is mostly just a player skill issue.

when we had appelby, alondes (or even laravia), they would get the ball to the right place when they got the ball in an advantageous situation.

(pfred is actually the one guy who i feel like does see the floor well)

yeah, Alondes was killer with the cross court passes in the half court

really opened things up for those offenses that otherwise had less offensive skill

It’s amazing how often we look like a completely different team from one half to the next. Sometimes in a positive way…but usually not.

Is it okay?

Their guards played out of their minds. They are so quick to the rim. Right now they are playing the best basketball in college. Just have to pick up the pieces and win the games we are supposed to .

Nightmare second half. Carolina is really good and I really hate em. Hopefully we can get a win against Pitt. Tonight sucks but frankly the loss last week at State is the one that stings regarding NCAA hopes. I hate we played that poorly on national tv but it is what it is. We are going to have to probably win at least once against Duke if we want to dance.

If we only win the games we’re supposed to then we will be sitting at home in March.
