2024 College Basketball Coaching Carousel

Juwan Howard fired
I’d figure next year he would be on the hot seat. Only 1 really crappy season (this year). Once to the elite 8, 1 to sweet 16, 1 to NIT 2nd round, and 1 cancelled due to Covid.

Candidates for Michigan:

  • Nate Oats
  • TJ Otzelberger
  • Dusty May
  • John Beilen (think this may be the favorite)

Plus hitting an opposing coach in the head

I assume the Beilein play is to right the ship and stabilize things over the next couple years so they can make a long term hire. Makes little sense otherwise.

Michigan should add Amir Abdur Rahim to their list.

Oats is off the table for any school due to extension today.

Mick Cronin is apparently their target - but his $20 million buyout is a stumbling block. I’d hire Dusty May in a minute, but he’ll eventually end up at Indiana.

Pretty big swing for Vanderbilt. Will be interesting to see how it plays out for them.

Wake isn't allowed to hire Mack.

Wake isn't allowed to hire:
(1) Anyone who has connections to Skip Prosser
(2) Anyone who has had any controversy
(3) Anyone who has a family member who donates to Wake Forest
(4) Any alums
(5) Any sons of former Coaches.

We hire "the most qualified candidate" and therefore the one who is old and already peaked. Definitely not anyone who might have affection for MSD.

Is anyone other than ZachDpt reporting Mack to Vandy?

Here’s what he said a few days ago
