Correct, and how would it have looked to pull scholarships from players that he had already accepted in the past when he "re-did" the process. I'm not saying that Ron Wellman did everything correctly, because it is evident that he does things the way he wants.

Ron Wellman is like Man United? Perhaps I need a rethink on him...

That isn't what I am saying.

You do it before the scholarship is commitable in the first place regardless of who the head coach is. That at least makes sense to me.

Of course the thing is there weren't big question marks. Let's see..

Tabb...poorly conditioned, work ethic issue?
Ari...went to the same school as another player than had issues in D1 ball
JTT...had an attitude on the court, was often compared to our most revered player because of this
Woods...looked mean?

I would definitely say that Wellman and Coach Gaudio just didn't get along. I have heard several stories that painted Coach Gaudio in a very bad light from several different sources.

If even half the stuff I've been told is true, Gaudio was insubordinate at best.

You won't find me ever saying we shouldn't have fired Gaudio. I thought he should have been shown the door the day after the Cleveland State loss.

Taking the excitement among our fans in the days following the Gaudio firing, and extinguishing it with one of the most questionable hires in ACC history just flat out pisses me off.

How do you know they were an aberration? That could have been one part of a lot of things we don't know about. Regardless of the fact that Gary and Jeff did nothing illegal the story isn't flattering for them or the program.

It isn't flattering for them, but it doesn't reflect on Dino at all.

There are things that winning coaches don't get fired for and losing coaches do. Dino was appointed to the position. He had very little leverage. Wellman had the power and used it. Then things got off track and we have Coach Bz.

I thought this is where most fans stood...but I may need to rethink that after some posts I've seen recently.

Yep, I was fine with firing Gaudio, but to follow it up with such a uninspired hire was an atrocious job by Ron Wellman.

Also, the contract extension to under 6 months later firing him was terrible as well. No benefit at all to doing that.

There are maybe two or three posters on this board who would disagree with that post (and one of them is keeper). Now if you start talking about casual fans the ratio definitely changes.

His players felt they could roam the halls of a hotel at 3am the night before an NCAA tournament game.

It speaks poorly on Dino because either, A) it shows how little respect the players had for Dino/how little control he had over the team, or B) that Dino found it fine for his players to be roaming the halls that late and permitted it.

I thought it was after the game?
