Tell me about Nashville

The free shuttle service is free!

Some run a shuttle but at cost, most are free. Little confusion on my part. One of my friends stayed at a different hotel. It did not cost for her to take the shuttle downtown, but did cost for the airport. Whereas, the hotel I stayed at, all were free. You have to do some investigating.

Tootsie's is awesome but is an enormous tourist trap. Make sure to stop by before 10:30 because after that it becomes some slammed that if you can even get in you will not be able to move around at all. To the point that you'll want to leave.

Therefore I suggest going to Tootsie's first and then going to Robert's Western World which is like three doors down. Robert's is my jam.

Roberts is where it all goes down.

Do I want to be near Downtown, Opryland, or gasp! the airport hotels? Is the price difference worth it?

I'd stay downtown so you can walk to all the main areas and/or the stadium.

Oh, and whoever asked about the drive from DC to Nashville: Its not horrible but it IS really boring. You have to take I-81 for 300 miles in VA and that seems to drag forever.. Traffic will pick up significantly when you get to I-40 but you could prob do it in 10.5 hours, maybe 11. I would fly over drive if you are going solo, but prob worth it with an extra person or two.

I would not want to be at the Airport hotels...you're going to be far from Downtown as well as the stadium.

Downtown hotel, although if you're w/ your family, the Opryland Hotel is awesome.

Prince's is the best.

Arnold's is an amazing meat and three in Nashville.

If you want the family style meal where you sit down at a table with a bunch of other people and pass around plates of fried chicken, try breakfast at Monell's. They do awesome breakfast food AND at the end they give you fried chicken.

While the Nashville airport is way closer to downtown than in a lot of cities, I'll echo what everyone said above and definitely recommend trying to stay downtown. It is much nicer to be able to walk to everything. But, if the price difference is extreme, it wouldn't be like a 30 min cab ride or something from an airport hotel.

I'm looking at hotels downtown, across the river from the stadium on the premise that the walking distance aspect is worth the significant increase in cost - just trying to confirm that it's not a big deal to walk to the stadium (i.e. that the bridges are pedestrian friendly).

Yeah its a real easy walk to the stadium. Can def walk on those bridges (as of 3 years ago anyway)

is anyone going to the Kickoff Party? It's $15. Looks like normal access price for the HOF is $20, so a decent deal.

I tagged along with a few Tennessee alums to last year's game (then went to Asheville for NYE) and we stayed right off Briley Pkwy not too far from the airport. Also when I was there for work last October, I also stayed at the Residence Inn near the airport. It was only like a $10-15 cab ride and I think the hotel prices were a lot cheaper than staying downtown.

Its definitely easier to stay downtown, however if you're on a budget I might consider looking at those hotels. They're not 5-star hotels by any means but its not like they're complete shit holes. The Marriot over that direction is actually really nice.

Hit up Paradise Park for delicious drunk food, or if you want to witness/get into a bar fight.

Also don't forget to partake in the $2 PBRs and/or High Life and sign a $1 to staple to the bar or wall.

Don't love Paradise Park. I'm a HUGE fan of the Stage though. The Big Bang is also fun.

I'll echo almost all of these. The only one I'll send a red flag on is the Pancake Pantry. I've had some killer breakfasts there, but they recently got a sub-60 score on their metro health inspection, so buyer beware.

I liked Pancake Pantry, but it wasn't worth a 30-45 minute wait.

once some of you folks decide on a hotel that's reasonably priced and located, I'd love for you to share your findings!
