Basketball Recruiting Megathread 1.0 has run its course

Well never mind then. I thought that might be the case; I just didn't bother to do the math.

It just seems like we never get any legit transfers.

Greenfield vs. Upper Room

Tonight I was lucky enough to get to watch Aaron Rountree and his Greenfield teammates take on Rodney Purvis and Upper Room. While Aaron didn't have the best shooting night from the outside, I came away very impressed.

Aaron did everything else that you would want a player to do. I have no idea how many points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks he had. I thought his court vision was fantastic and he regularly made the correct entry pass to his teammates. He seemed to crash the glass every time down the floor on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court (which we did today against VT, but could use a whole lot more of). He had several steals and blocks, and a few others that looked to be clean blocks that the ref called phantom fouls on him. He also had a really good touch around the rim, where he made his layups and tip-ins off his rebounds. He hustled on defense and helped coach up some of his younger teammates mid-game. I really thought he did everything well except shoot the ball from the outside. His outside shot did not look particularly good tonight, but even though he was struggling from outside, I was very encouraged by his attitude and effort throughout the game.

Greenfield won the game by 8 or 10, thanks to a great overall performance by several of Aaron's teammates in the 4th quarter.

For our NC State friends, they are getting a really good shooter in Rodney Purvis. He was on fire in the 3rd quarter from 3point range. He also probably made 13 of 14 free throw shots. He attempted to take over the game in the 2nd half and almost succeeded. Reminds me of a cross between Rashad McCants and Reyshawn Terry. I fully expect him to be starting by his sophomore year, and will probably end up being someone we don't like too much (as Deacon fans). I think that his effort on the defensive end wasn't what it should have been. But there is no doubt that he is a talent, and he already has the strength and body type to be a great player for the Pack. If Aaron had Purvis's strength and shot, he would be the best player in the country. Here's hoping that Aaron can improve his shot and his weight. I think we got a good one.

CMM and Andre are playing in Kentucky this weekend. Big game at Rupp tomorrow.

There ended up being some controversy and those games couldn't be played in Rupp. The ruling was made about a month ago. The games are being played at a local high school instead.

Another high school extravaganza that was supposed to be played at UNLV's gym later this month was nixed as well.

Not sure he was much of an option. He picked Kentucky against better advice, realized he was never going to play, and voluntarily sat out the season.

He was Calipari's highest ranked SF recruit until Gilchrist this year. Poole had plenty of opportunities to play at Kentucky, especially since he was only competing with Darius Miller, Deandre Liggins, and Jon Hood for PT. A legit top 40 player should have been able to get on the floor. If a player like Josh Harrellson can succeed and make the NBA under Cal, there is no excuse for someone with Poole's ability.

Harrellson was spoon-fed minutes because there was no frontcourt depth. I feel like that's common knowledge at this point. It's for the same reason that Eloy Vargas got minutes...

Miller is a senior and established contributor. The SG/SF rotation at Kentucky has been stacked over the past two years and Poole, in limited minutes was awful. If you were Cal, would you play him over Miller (6'8 - good shooter and plays SG-PF), Liggins (6'7, best perimeter defender and good shooter), Doron Lamb (6'4 SG/SF, arguably best shooter/perimeter scorer), or Kidd-Gilchrist (arguably the best player in the country)? Poole left because he wasn't good enough to play on this team. Rotations are more complicated than position. Last year he was in competition for perimeter minutes against two juniors and productive freshmen and this year, that backcourt got more crowded with even more talent.

I know we lack the schollies, but Keala King just got dismissed from Arizona State. Lousy fit for Sendeck's system, but the kid was a top-50 player with excellent grades, a smooth jumper, and some pretty interesting skill set. 6'5 scoring-guard.

Sounds like he'd be a perfect fit for Wake. Plus, I'm sure he hates Sendeck and his system. Does anybody know how the post-transfer recruiting process goes?

Do you really think after what the team has gone through Bz is going to recruit someone dismissed from a team for some unknown conduct?

Just wondering... You're probably right. Lots of players struggle with Sendeck and thrive elsewhere (rumors were that the two "butted heads"). There would be no shortage of minutes for him here next spring...

Anyone know anything about Tony Nunn a 2013 pf out of Salisbury? Not much info online.

Have you seen the entry on ESPN recruiting? Here are some highlights:

"Good size and he's a rock in the lane. Will be a tough guy to pusharound once he develops his basketball ego and becomes comfortable in his own skin. Impressed with his quick hands at both ends. Takes care of rebounds in his area and is a rebound and stickback guy. Not a big guy or particularly long but does cobble up his share of blocked shots...Tracking as a mid-major player but needs offensive development. Excellent student and has a strong desire to improve so he has that going for him." from http://insider.espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/evaluation/_/id/140893/tony-nunn

Any idea why we're not on McClinton's teammate at 2013 PG Raekwon Harney? I know he visited awhile back, but I haven't heard anything else connecting Wake and Harney outside of a tweet from a recruiting guy awhile back.

According to Reggie Rankin, UVA's interested.

Seeing as he's in our backyard, we badly need PG depth, our PG prospects are un-offered and not sure things, and he's fielding interest from high-majors such as Wake, UVA, Cincy, Louisville (likely with McClinton..), Xavier, UMD, NCSU, etc., is he a player our staff is looking at seriously in '13?

UNC-W is his only offer right now, but I could see that changing considering the aforementioned list.

I see Harvey and, to a greater extent based on talent as opposed to need, Christian Hairston (6'7 SG/SF - GDS - 4*/92 - ranked #7 in NC on ESPN behind Freeman, Hicks, Meeks, McClinton, Gill, and Newkirk) as two local players who are under-recruited, have potential to break out, and who are intriguing prospects considering our current 2013 recruiting slate.

Nunn is listed as 6'8, 240 by Rivals and ESPN. Rivals says he has offers from UNCC, Winthrop and Jacksonville. ESPN has him as 2*.
