Everyone knows this is not the bottom yet. He gets fired this year or next what is the big deal?
1. We have to pay his buyout
2. We get a one year head start on building the program back up.
Most know he will be back next year and that is just garbage. Give him a chance to run off some of next years class.
Exactly! If we keep Buzz, next year we will lose half of that class. The best year for retention during Buzz's time at Colorado was the year he LEFT! Maybe it's not too late to retain some of those who are now planning to transfer if we get them a REAL coach.
I just think he wanted to go somewhere he can win games and have fun doing it. When you only get four years, who wants to spend it losing as part of some 60 year old guy's long term rebuilding plan? They don't hang jerseys for that. Fans and players alike want to win today, not in three years.
Last year, I said something to the effect that keeping Buzz was the same thing as telling your players that you do not care about them and their college basketball career. I guess the players are now realizing it themselves. I feel for Travis, he is looking at how CJ is stuck with no options and realizing that next year that's him. RW apparently cares more about his pride than he does about the program or the players.
Where the fuck has the Journal been on any of this news? Kinda makes sense that newspapers are going the way of the dinosaur.
Interesting to look back at Dan's piece titled "Mistakes Were Made". His litany of "if's" is being being whittled away. And the man (Bz) he "personally likes", is losing what little credibility he had left. At the end of that article he says that Ron Wellman "made at least two mistakes". I particularly agree with the "at least" part. After straddling the fence so adeptly in that article, it will be interesting to see if Dan ties his next piece on Wake B-ball to his comments on "Mistakes Were Made".
You're not taking into account the fact that Fields will improve minimally, and could improve a lot, from maturity, and the fact that he is done rehabbing. CJ is not a good backup point. It's a really big gamble to assume that an incoming freshman will be able to succeed from day 1 at the toughest position on the court, without any backup. That's ridiculous. Losing TC was a big deal, and now losing the only other point on our team is...even more ridiculous.
I was hoping that Fields would improve and mature into a Rusty/Blucas type player by his junior/senior year. I could see him (possibly) becoming a solid contributor with a good shot, a good heart, and tons of passion - with the right coach.
I don't believe that whether or not we hire a new coach is about money. We're losing money and more by keeping this trainwreck of a coach. Saying that Wake can't afford a buyout for Dino and Buzz is just smoke and mirrors. Keeping Buzz is all about RW's pride. It has nothing to do with what's best for the Wake basketball program or our players.
