REPORT: Sacramento Kings close to moving to Virginia Beach, sources say they hope to join the ACC to actually have a chance at winning

The owners of the Sacramento Kings, an NBA franchise, and officials from Philadelphia-based Comcast-Spectacor are expected to be in Virginia Beach Tuesday to propose moving the team to the resort city and for Comcast to help build and lease a new pro sports arena.
A deal between the Maloof family, which owns the Sacramento Kings, and the city of Sacramento for a $391 million entertainment complex fell apart three months ago and it has been reported that the owners are looking for a city for their franchise.

Media giant Comcast will guarantee a 25-year lease on a new arena, supposedly for naming rights and for broadcasting the games, sources said. Comcast owns NBC and Global Spectrum, which operates arenas and stadiums across the country including the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University.

City officials and the Maloof family are expected to announce Wednesday, Aug. 29, that the Kings will land in Virginia Beach, sources said.

Virginia Beach-based Meridian Group, a marketing communications firm, is expected to handle the public relations for the announcement.

To finance the arena, the Virginia Beach Hotel-Motel Association has indicated it would support a $1 hike in the lodging tax, sources said.

In addition, the Atlantic Coast Conference has agreed to place Virginia Beach on its list as a future venue for college ACC conference tournaments

Are the Maloofs using this as a wedge to move to Vegas or Orange County?

That's weird as shit. I guess I'd adopt them as a second favorite team. I don't know how big a fanbase they would have though.

Watch VA Beach actually be good and see all 400 of the Bobcats and Wizards fans off themselves.

I don't see why it would matter. The Bobcats were an expansion team, Virginia Beach would have an actual franchise. Plus why would I give a shit as a Bobcats fan?

Maybe both teams will improve sometime in the near future and there can be a rivalry or something. Are they going to move to the Eastern Conference, who would move West? I guess Detroit or Milwaukee is most likely.

They could have "Bring Your Weapon to the Game Day" each month.

Think of the intimidation factor of guys in uniform with guns in the stands!

Disagree with the bolded. OKC could trade Harden for a lottery pick and an impact player still on a manageable rookie deal. They could actually save a good bit of money, avoid the tax, and still get good value for the current roster while pocketing a lottery pick for the future. If OKC flipped Harden for, say, Brad Beal and a future top five pick from Washington, or, say, Gerald Henderson and an unprotected lottery picks from the Bobcats, that's acceptable quality at roughly a third of the salary, plus a high-end draft pick who'll play cheap for 3-4 years. That's what I would do.

As things stand, OKC isn't seeing the top of the draft for years without making a trade. Harden, as was ably pointed out above, is likely to be simply too expensive for the Thunder to retain, regardless of whether they "want" to lose him (see: Asik, Lin). But if OKC works proactively, they could use Harden as the chip that replenishes their draft pipeline while not losing too much quality in the near term. Those proposed trades are just hypotheticals, but you see my point -- OKC can move Harden, avoid the tax, still get an NBA starter on a cheaper deal, all while planning for the future.

I wouldn't cut Perkins at this point, even though it likely costs you Harden (through a trade). They need someone to guard Howard, and they aren't going to find anyone on the scrap heap who can do it as well as Perkins. Center just became a whole lot more important as a position in the West. OKC will need Perkins in the WCFs.

Some good points in here re: Beal or Bobcats deals. I'm just thinking of what team has ever traded down in talent so close to being ready to build a Dynasty. The bulls can afford to be cheap re: Asik, they've had their share of titles and they're in Chicago, people are likely mad but they aren't going to lose their fanbase. OKC isn't in the same position, so depending on how badly their owner wants to bring a title to OKC, I could see them keeping Harden.

If you're going up against the Lakers, would you rather have

Westbrook/Henderson-Beal/Durant/Ibaka/Perkins
Westbrook/Harden/Durant/Ibaka/Collison

"Collison's plus-minus numbers defy explanation -- the list of the top players in adjusted plus-minus over the past few years is essentially a bunch of superstars and Nick Collison. According to this site, using the more advanced "regularized" adjusted plus-minus, Collison was fourth in the NBA last season at plus-5.0 points per 100 possession; of the top dozen players, he was the only one who hasn't been to at least one All-Star Game. He was 13th in 2010, so it's no fluke. In fact, according to basketballvalue.com over the two-year period, his plus-8.11 raw adjusted plus-minus ranks fifth in the league.

That doesn't make his game wartless. For one, his high foul rate makes it difficult to play him extended minutes. Moreover, Collison's offensive productivity took a worrying turn south last season. He scored only 8.6 points per 40 minutes, and while he at least contributed a high shooting percentage, his rates of rebounds and blocks also declined.

But he's still an ace defender, especially in help situations. In particular, Collison has become a master at taking charges over the past two seasons. While he's a bit of a tweener between 4 and 5, he makes up for it with preparation and good quickness for his size, and as a result is one of the most effective defenders in the game. "

Meanwhile Kendrick Perkins sported a PER below 10 last season for the second season in a row. He could bounce back 2nd full year back from a knee injury though.

I am a big Collision fan, but do you really want him defending Dwight Howard 30mpg during the playoffs?

i think ish was somewhere in the 420 range, wasn't he?

just looked it up, 423.

Ah, I guess I missed him.

Is he still on the Rocket's training camp roster?

What do they have at PG other than Lin?
