Down one score, Tampa tries forcing a fumble during New York's last kneel down. Coughlin is none too pleased and verbally rips in to Schiano after the game. Saw Deion Sanders on NFL Network last night say Schiano might have gotten away with that in college, but it was completely out of line in the NFL.

Coughlin: "I don't think you do that. You don't do that. You don't jeopardize the offensive line, you (don't) jeopardize the quarterback. Thank goodness we didn't get anybody hurt, that I know of, a couple of linemen were late coming in (after end of game)."

Eli: "Obviously I think it is a little bit of a cheap shot."

Schiano: "I don't know if that's not something that's not done in the National Football League, but what I do with our football team is we fight until they tell us 'Game over.' There's nothing dirty about it and there's nothing illegal about it. We crowd the ball -- it's like a sneak defense and you try to knock it loose. Watch Rutgers, they would know if they watched us that's what we did at the end of the game."

Yea fair game by the letter of the law, and a small part of me respects Schiano for not wanting to give up, but this was a cheap shot. Super lame. If a Giant had gotten injured, this would be a big deal.

What if a TB player got hurt? It would probably lead to a pretty short tenure in TB.

Not a cheap shot. Block them if you don't want them to try to cause a fumble. Cheap shot if they keep going AFTER the whistle.

When I first heard about it I thought the ends rushed in and just leveled him, but it doesn't seem too bad. I'm kind of on the fence about this one.

Game's not over. Play the game. If you want to kneel, be ready to block.

I can see it both ways. But I've also seen a similar play work in high school, where the defense was able to knock the ball loose and recover. It's hard for me to say it's a cheap shot considering it was all between the whistles, there was time on the clock, and you're only down 1 score. I don't like the idea of just sitting back and accepting defeat.

Play until the clock says 0:00. If its the type of play that is allowed during the rest of the game (aka nothing dirty), it makes no difference if the team is kneeling or not.

Would it have been a cheap shot if Eli faked the kneel down, and threw a TD?

Good point. If it was a blow out game, definitely more of a cheap shot. In a one score game, Tampa needs to do everything it can to get the ball back before the clock hits Zero. Not a cheap shot.

this is pretty much exactly where I stand. while I respect what Schiano is trying to do in TB and showing that they are going to fight til the end, thats really not something you should do at the end of the game with the game in hand. BeachBum says you should block them if you don't want them to cause a fumble, thats what they were doing, but all of the Bucs players dove at the NYG lineman's knees. thats just asking for a knee injury to happen.

its definitely within the rules to do what the Bucs did, but that doesn't mean it should happen. the game is over, just let the other team finish off the clock. the chances someone is going t get hurt by diving into that pile are MUCH MUCH greater than your chances of causing a fumble

If these teams meet again, I'm running up the score as much as possible if I'm the Giants. All within the rules.

It's definitely a dirty play. You can't hit a QB if he slides feet first.

Should he sit on his ass with his legs out like a slide?

Of course it's a dirty play.

It doesn't matter what the fans think, the question is how will this be viewed around the league? Seems to me that is what Schiano must be concerned about.
