Liberal Academia Attacks Our Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ Once Again!

Ahh, you mean the liberal academy that says Jesus did not exist...

While they fawn over the "veracity" of this snippet let them also fall all over themselves while reading the staggering number of extant papyri which state "Jesus is the Son of God" or any of the nature-violating (as far as we know) miracles he performed.

We do this simply because we know that all ancient writings are "the truth", right?

Yeah.

As for the op, are you really offended or think this is an attack? If Christians want to claim Jesus is a real person who lived on this earth, we have to able to accept that information about him and his life may change as new things are discovered.

1. Jesus was a real person who lived on this earth regardless of whether Christians want to claim it or not. This isn't really disputed. And it certainly doesn't follow that we must accept anything written about him for the historical Jesus to exist. Non-Christians have no problem rejecting all sorts of things written about Jesus while still believing that Jesus existed.

2. This isn't a new discovery. It's widely known that early Christians disagreed on whether or not Jesus had a wife and how that might affect their ability to take a wife as Christians. The fact that a 4th century document lines up with one side of a second century argument doesnt tell us much about its veracity.

3. Even if true it really doesn't or shouldn't change much if anything of what Christians believe about Jesus.

Exactly who said Jesus didn't exist?

I'm of the Christian camp who believes this wouldn't be a big deal at all, in fact it shows his humanity even more.

Could there ever be a better pick-up line than,"You're about to hook up with the Son of God"?

Having diarrhea or morning wood is really part of the human experience that I hope God got to experience when he became man.

Correct. What's the point of coming to Earth to be human, if you're not going to be a real human and all that it entails. On to the next non-story.

What about discovering that it's happy-time when you lean up against the jets in the pool exactly the right way? I hope Jesus got to experience that.

You ever eat at the Nazereth Cafe? Dollars to doughnuts JC had the squirts.

What I will never understand about Christians is how pliable their beliefs can be when it suits them. The Bible is the 100% true word of God...except when it is not. In the case of Catholics, the Pope is the infallible representative of God on Earth when he speaks on church doctrine...except when he isn't. So if church doctrine says X and people who don't follow it are then sinning and die and go to hell, when church doctrine is changed to Y will they then be retroactively cleansed of their sins and sent to heaven? It is all a big joke that people are still looking for evidence of something that occurred thousands of years ago to justify whether priests should get married or what is the role of women in the church. Lets move on people.

whoa there, chipper. I agree with you... I was speaking against people who have reactions like P4nthers11 describes, where they can't believe it to be true in the least because it's not in the Bible or just goes against what their brains can handle regarding God. They accept the 'truth' that suits them. I definitely agree that it doesn't and shouldn't change what Christians believe about Jesus; pretty sure this doesn't affect His message at all... but as per CNN this morning and the way they read tweets in response to questions, one guy responded "No way is this true! It's not in God's plan or will and it's terrible people are bringing this up!" Some people (and presumabely a Christian, in this instance) will have a hard time with this and i just find it sad that they can't open their minds to the idea of it.

Sorry. I went back and re-read your first post and I think I misread it the first time. My stance on it is sure its possible that Jesus is married but finding this parchment doesnt make it any more likely that he actually was.

As to Panthers point Christians don't decide who if anyone goes to hell so if they change their beliefs or doctrines it has no bearing on God's will. No Christian would claim that it does.

apparently they didn't even bother to test the ink on the suspicious piece of papyrus

sloppy work there Harvard chairwoman

I didnt click the link on this thread but in the article I read it stated that to carbon date it the amount of ink that would need to be scraped off would destroy the piece. Instead they are going to use a spectrometer or something to date it.
